HJF is seeking a highly motivated and skilled

Systems Engineer II

to develop, implement, and maintain systems in the cloud supporting large-scale biological data analysis for research. The Systems Engineer works independently; establishes internal priorities, work schedules and goals and uses her own initiative and sound judgment. Work is evaluated based on results achieved towards established goals and requirements, timeliness, application of sound business practice and efficient use of resources. This position will be in support of the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program and the USU School of Medicine. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF\'s support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

Performs IT infrastructure architecting, deployment, and maintenance for public cloud technologies using an infrastructure-as-code approach.

Collaborates with stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into system requirements; formulates new solutions or enhancements to existing systems employing public cloud technologies.

Acts as a lead technical resource for project requirements gathering with independent analysis and formulation of solutions.

Independently designs, develops, tests, deploys, and maintains systems using software development lifecycle best practices to ensure high quality solutions.

Documents software design, development, and deployment processes.

May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including required training for the role.

Education and Experience

High school Diploma or GED required. Vocational or technical degree/Bachelor\'s degree preferred.

Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.

Licenses and Certifications

CompTIA Security+ Certification

Vendor training/certification preferred (e.g., Google Cloud Professional certifications, AWS Professional certifications), but not required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience in cloud computing concepts and tools for public cloud platforms, preferably with an infrastructure-as-code approach such as Terraform for Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.

Proficient in Linux/Unix, and containerization technologies like Docker.

Proficient in DevOps tools, including Git, GitHub or Bitbucket, and automated build tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.

Experience with or willingness to learn Python or R for data analysis applications.

Willingness to acquire domain-specific knowledge and understand the technical aspects of research projects, preferably with a focus on scientific computing or bioinformatics.

Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speaking.

US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.

Physical Capabilities

Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

Remote. Preferred candidate will reside in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) metropolitan area.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$115,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
