Overview Boston University Advancement seeks an Assistant Director of Prospect Management to direct the Prospect Management team’s efforts in prioritizing prospects for centrally- and school-based gift officers, supporting both schools and presidential strategic priorities. This role is part of the Business Intelligence & Prospect Strategies group within Development & Alumni Relations (DAR).
Responsibilities Pipeline Development
Assist in creating and maintaining gift officer portfolios with the most viable prospects by identifying and assigning new major gift prospects and prioritizing existing major gift prospects using best practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional prospect portfolio review teams (Prospect Management, Prospect Research, Business Intelligence, Gifts & Records) to provide data-driven support and strategic insights for individual gift officers.
Consult on and interpret prospect and portfolio reports that support Advancement metrics and goals in partnership with gift officers.
Portfolio Management
Monitor and analyze the portfolios of gift officers to ensure alignment with expectations regarding size and stage of cultivation.
Update the database of record as necessary and monitor data integrity to report key metrics for individual fundraiser portfolios.
Staff and Project Management
Manage 1 Prospect Management Analyst, including onboarding, goal setting, and direction of duties; collaborate with the Director of Prospect Management on team leadership.
Design and implement processes and tracking methods to manage multiple concurrent projects across the organization.
Participate in cross-divisional initiatives to support major gift campaigns and strategic fundraising efforts.
Communicate and train gift officers on policy and process recommendations created by the PM team to foster collaboration and ensure alignment with industry best practices; support staff with guidance as needed.
Solicit and incorporate stakeholder feedback on projects and deliverables.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree.
Five to eight years of prospect/portfolio management experience, preferably in a university setting.
Comprehensive understanding of philanthropy, prospect development, and prospect management.
Experience partnering with gift officers on prospect and/or portfolio strategy.
Excellent ability to analyze, interpret, and synthesize various datapoints for making assignment and prioritization decisions with fundraiser partners.
Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Personal belief in the mission of private higher education.
Strong strategic and project management skills with the ability to relate to a diverse group of fundraising professionals in a fast-moving environment.
Solid understanding and ability to collaborate across the University.
Initiative, proactivity, and self-motivation.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to keep donor and donor prospect information confidential.
High proficiency in relevant software, eCRMs, operations and University-wide systems.
