Overview
Boston University Development and Alumni Relations seeks an entrepreneurial, energetic, and collaborative Assistant Dean of Development and Alumni Relations for the Questrom School of Business. The Assistant Dean will lead a team of fundraising and stewardship professionals in planning and implementing long- and short-term fundraising and engagement strategies that will elevate the advancement capabilities at the Questrom School as it seeks to actualize a strategic plan and moves toward the School's and BU's next comprehensive campaign. In partnership with Dean Susan Fournier and Associate Vice President for School Development Lara Brown de Fuenmayor, the Assistant Dean will be chiefly responsible for systematically engaging and soliciting individual prospects with potential to make significant philanthropic contributions to the Questrom School. The Assistant Dean will mentor and provide strategic guidance to five staff members and support the Dean's Advisory Board in partnership with Dean Fournier. This role offers a solid foundation and runway to grow the program, shaping the future of the School alongside a Dean, a warm community of alumni and friends, and a committed team. Responsibilities
Fundraising: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising program for the Questrom School of Business. Maintain a portfolio of leadership and principal gift prospects; cultivate, solicit and steward them for the School\'s strategic priorities. Prepare proposals and materials for leadership gift solicitations and manage fundraising initiatives in line with the University and School strategic plans. Leadership: Provide expert fundraising counsel to the Dean, faculty, department chairs, and alumni volunteers. Build collaboration with Questrom leadership, faculty, researchers, and colleagues in Development and Alumni Relations. Represent DAR in faculty meetings as needed and manage the Dean\'s Advisory Board to maximize philanthropy for key priorities. Management: Lead and mentor a team of five professionals (director of development, two senior major gift officers, senior associate director of stewardship and donor engagement, and development coordinator). Partner with Alumni Relations professionals within Questrom\'s Feld Center. Oversee office operations, budget, and administrative duties per DAR, Questrom, and BU policies. Communications: Serve as the School\'s information resource for Development and Alumni Relations. Coordinate with Major Gift Officers, Planned Giving Officers, and the Office of Alumni Engagement to advance prospect activity in alignment with School initiatives. Requirements
Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent; Master\'s preferred. Minimum of 14 years of experience in development or academic fundraising, including portfolio development and gift solicitation. Experience with volunteers and international donors is ideal; familiarity with business school development and alumni operations preferred. Extensive travel, nights, and weekends required. Excellent written and oral business communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships in a collaborative environment. Must be able to work with university leadership (manage up), colleagues across campus, and staff within and outside of Development. Ability to work well on a team; flexibility to adapt; ability to delegate appropriately. Strategic and creative thinking to understand prospects\' needs and develop effective engagement strategies.
