Job Summary
The Core Tax Services ("CTS") Senior Manager - ASC740 is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 tax issues. The Senior Manager applies knowledge to understand potential tax issues and communicates potential risks and changes in tax policy. The role also involves marketing, networking and business development within area(s) of expertise and may include providing written tax advice to clients. Job Duties
Tax Compliance Ensures that clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and ensures that self and client service teams comply with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM"). Conducts top-level review of tax returns/tax reconciliations and resolves tax issues with the client; involves specialists where appropriate. Communicates with client and Assurance on issues identified in tax accrual reviews. Plans and reviews the tax process and procedures, including budgeting and staffing; monitoring engagement progress and actual time incurred versus budget with assistance of Senior. Oversees timely billing, including management of out-of-scope activity and communication to the client; ensures timely collection of accounts receivable (A/R). Manages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project; provides timely advice to clients. Research Identifies when research is needed; frames issues to be researched clearly and concisely; reports analysis clearly and concisely. Identifies complex issues for engagement team and provides research methodology for efficient processes. Trains managers/staff on research skills and helps to appropriately frame ASC 740 tax issues for analysis; involves firm specialists as appropriate. ASC 740 (fka FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals Applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO TQM regarding ASC 740; communicates components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client and addresses ASC 740 complexities. Coordinates with Assurance to plan tax accrual reviews (budget, scope, delivery dates); reviews tax provisions with in-depth ASC 740 knowledge; reviews prepared workpapers; utilizes and manages Specialized Tax Services ("STS") as needed. Tax Consulting Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits, especially by reducing current and future taxes. Considers CTS and STS consulting specialties for each client; develops and implements work plans to organize STS assistance on ongoing projects; serves as a technical resource. Ensures client service teams comply with Firm policy regarding Written Tax Advice ("WTA"); provides effective assistance with exam support; frames projects and issues for delegation to seniors and associates. Tax Specialization Develops in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more tax areas (e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, R&D tax benefits, etc.). May organize and conduct internal CPE training sessions in the area of specialization; may train and mentor managers/seniors/associates on ASC 740. Strategy Development Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve client position, the Firm, or Firm personnel (e.g., reducing taxes or expenses, or providing non-tax benefits). Suggests improvements to previous work products; may lead marketing campaigns; presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients; collaborates with the Firm's National Tax and STS to deliver high-quality deliverables. Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects. Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments. Trains associates and seniors to use current software tools. Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates. Schedules and manages the workload of associates and senior associates. Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting or Taxation, required Masters degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred Experience: Eight (8) or more years of prior experience, required Experience in managing the process of preparing and auditing ASC740 computations for both privately held and publicly traded clients, required Prior supervisory experience, required Multinational client experience, preferred License/Certifications: CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required Software: Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, preferred Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA; Proficient in tax compliance process software including GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers, preferred Language: N/A Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Superior verbal and written communication skills Ability to effectively delegate work as needed Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills, and decision-making abilities Ability to work well in a team environment Able to develop and manage a team of tax professionals Ability to compose written tax advice Ability to develop and maintain client relationships with executive presence as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
