$150,000.00/yr - $300,000.00/yr Our client is a fast-growing, well-funded robotics startup based in San Mateo, CA. Backed by top investors, they are building a general-purpose robotics intelligence platform designed to power humanoids, quadrupeds, and mobile manipulators across industries—from construction sites to healthcare to manufacturing. This is a rare chance to join at the ground floor of a company scaling rapidly, where every engineer has a direct line to leadership and immediate impact on product direction. We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join the founding technical team. In this role, you’ll own the design and deployment of control systems that enable humanoid and mobile robotic platforms to perform complex, real-world tasks. You’ll be the go-to person for controls—writing production-level code in C++ and Python, working closely with the founders and project leads, and ensuring robots move with stability, precision, and adaptability. As the team scales, this position will evolve into a leadership-level role in controls. Responsibilities
Design and implement classical and modern control systems for humanoids, manipulators, and mobile robots Integrate controllers with planning frameworks and higher-level autonomy stacks Develop solutions for teleoperation and human-in-the-loop control Tackle high-precision tasks such as insertion and assembly in dynamic environments Deploy algorithms on real robotic platforms, ensuring robust performance beyond simulation Collaborate cross-functionally with software, hardware, and perception teams Qualifications
3–7 years of experience in robotics controls (industry or advanced research) Strong foundation in control theory (classical + adaptive/MPC preferred) Hands-on experience deploying controllers on real robots (humanoids or equivalent platforms strongly preferred) Proficiency in C++ (production-level) and Python Familiarity with ROS/ROS2 and common robotics toolchains Degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (BS required; MS/PhD preferred) Why Join
