SWARM Biotactics – a globally pioneering startup in the field of biorobotics – is looking for a Laboratory Manager to support our team with immediate effect. Founded by an experienced founding team and solidly financed, SWARM Biotactics is developing innovative biorobotic systems – starting with insect-based platforms – for a wide range of real-world applications. While the position is based in the San Diego area, you will work under the direction of, and in close collaboration with, our core management team based in Germany. Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Laboratory Manager to lead our San Diego facility’s operations. This role will oversee the day-to-day activities of our biology and hybrid biology/hardware technicians, ensuring seamless execution of client demonstrations and navigation experiments. The Laboratory Manager will be the central point of coordination, ensuring that both technical quality and client-facing presentation meet the highest standards. Key Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate the work of biology and hybrid biology/hardware technicians. Oversee preparation and execution of live demonstrations for prospective clients, ensuring smooth delivery and technical accuracy. Plan and schedule navigation experiments. Enforce safety, ethical, and compliance standards for biological and technical work. Ensure all laboratory procedures follow protocols and quality standards. Manage colony health and experimental readiness across multiple arenas and terrain types. Maintain inventory of biological materials, hardware components, and lab supplies. Liaise between the San Diego team and senior leadership to report progress, challenges, and resource needs. Qualifications

Degree in Biology, Bioengineering, or related field (or equivalent laboratory and management experience). PhD desirable but not essential. Demonstrated leadership experience in a lab or technical environment. Understanding of insect biology and handling. Exceptional organizational and time-management skills. Confident communicator with experience in client-facing situations. Ability to problem-solve across biological and technical domains. Seniority level
