Founded by an experienced founding team and solidly financed, SWARM Biotactics is developing innovative biorobotic systems – starting with insect-based platforms – for a wide range of real-world applications.
While the position is based in the San Diego area, you will work under the direction of, and in close collaboration with, our core management team based in Germany.
Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Biology Technician to join our San Diego operations, supporting client demonstrations and data generation for our cutting-edge biorobotics projects. This role focuses on biological work — from maintaining insect colonies to performing surgical procedures — and will play a key role in both daily experiments and high-quality client demonstrations. Key Responsibilities
Perform microsurgeries on cockroaches for biorobotics applications. Maintain and care for cockroach colonies, ensuring optimal health and breeding conditions. Prepare and run navigation experiments in various settings. Assist in setting up and executing live demonstrations for prospective clients. Ensure experimental arenas are clean, functional, and ready for use. Maintain accurate records of experiments, animal care, and procedural details. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, Entomology, or related field (or equivalent laboratory experience). Proficiency in insect handling and basic laboratory techniques. Fine motor skills and precision for micro-scale biological procedures. Strong attention to detail, record-keeping, and adherence to protocols. Comfort with interacting with clients in a laboratory setting. Enthusiasm for working with live animals in applied research contexts. Seniority level
