Overview

The Lead Endoscopy Technician provides advanced support, orientation, training, and supervision for technicians, and advanced care to patients during pediatric procedures. Responsibilities

Performs, participates in, and supervises Endo Technician duties. Demonstrates ability to utilize and troubleshoot specialty Endo equipment; assists clinical nurse with patient preparation, including placement of monitoring equipment; maintains patient confidentiality and privacy; demonstrates proper handling of tissue samples, assisting clinical nurse with labeling and documentation; demonstrates knowledge of care and handling of endoscopes; ensures cleaning procedures meet infection control guidelines; adheres to unit documentation of scope number, wash load number, leakage test results and chemical testing; maintains knowledge of GI anatomy and precautions during insertion and advancement of scopes; assists during emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest and bleeding; provides physician assistance during EGD/PEG, colonoscopy, and other pediatric procedures. Assists in selecting, training, orienting, and supervising Endo Technicians. Participates in interviews and hiring recommendations; plans in-service training for new technicians; coordinates in-house continuing education; assists in scheduling work and time off to ensure adequate coverage, including on-call coverage for Endo cases; coordinates with Nurse Manager on technical personnel activities. Troubleshoots minor equipment problems; refers major issues to Biomedical Engineering and IT. Oversees monitoring and documentation of Endo equipment for safety, quality control, preventive maintenance and cleanliness; ensures infection control standards are met; maintains communication with technicians to review programs and discuss new developments. Assists in inventory and ordering of department supplies; ensures adequate quantities; participates in annual inventory. Contributes to department goals, adheres to policies and safety standards, and complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Participates in quality review, develops new work methodologies, and assists with staff in-servicing on new equipment and procedures; develops policies and procedures with Department Manager. Supervises pre-certification and authorization processes, ensuring adherence to all requirements and contracts; determines whether appointments can be rescheduled if referrals or authorizations are missing. Supervises communications with insurance companies, patients, and providers regarding eligibility, benefits, and authorizations; coordinates with PFCU to obtain missing information; ensures authorizations are obtained prior to services. Supervises documentation of referrals and authorizations in scheduling and billing systems; ensures correct data field usage in Open Referral Module and Appointment Data Form. Provides training on managed care contracts, system utilization of scheduling/billing systems, JC standards, and HIPAA; ensures staff adherence to patient privacy and EHR policies. Supervises MR/EHR usage by Scheduler, Front Desk, Administrative Support, and Pre-certification/Authorization staff; monitors notes and updates for timeliness and accuracy. Participates in internal chart audits, manages chart activity, and coordinates storage of files; maintains database for inactive charts. Oversees technology initiatives, including EHR implementation and performance improvements; audits staff productivity and EHR/billing system usage. Collaborates with healthcare team to identify barriers to efficient, high-quality service; participates in development and evaluation of measures to enhance services; assists in planning and implementing new policies for outpatient clinics. Responds to patient complaints and facilitates resolution of service issues; monitors patient satisfaction and pursues process improvements. Monitors clinical facility needs and space to maintain a clean, safe environment; orders required supplies. Participates in front-end clinic operations (phone coverage, scheduling, patient greeting/check-in, financial responsibilities, benefits verification, appointments coordination) and provides backup clinic coverage. Exemplifies customer service and caring behaviors in all activities. Participates in training on JC standards, patient safety, patient rights, and HIPAA privacy; follows care, documentation, and cleanliness standards; completes in-services timely; protects patient privacy and adheres to all JC/GUH standards. Participates in departmental and hospital meetings; represents the department at user meetings; communicates relevant information to staff; participates in committees and community outreach; engages in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Minimum Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or GED required. Specialized/advanced clerical, technical or vocational training (1-2 years) required. Associate’s degree preferred. Experience

1-2 years Gastroenterology Technician training required. 1-2 years experience as a technician in pediatric procedures required. Licenses and Certifications

CPR with BLS/NRP for healthcare providers from AHA or Red Cross within 90 days. Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary within 90 days. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Operates specialized medical equipment or data processing equipment. Verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills. Salary:

This position has a hiring range of $22.04 - $38.41 per hour. Seniority level
