We are seeking a creative, insight-driven and detail-oriented data visualization consultant to join the Regional and Sectoral Data Group within our Research Department. About the team

The Regional and Sectoral Data Group (RSD) coordinates and supports the governance of regional and sectoral data generated or obtained through research, knowledge, and operational work. This includes traditional (censuses, surveys, administrative records) and non-traditional (social networks, digital footprints, satellite imagery, etc.) data sources used across departments. The RSD Team enhances data pipelines and builds scalable visual tools that translate data into clear, impactful insights. The consultant will develop data visualizations, interactive dashboards, data storytelling, and visually appealing reports that increase data accessibility and usability. The consultant will collaborate with data scientists, engineers, analysts, and governance specialists to translate complex datasets into meaningful insights. Responsibilities

Design and develop interactive dashboards using Power BI and other data visualization tools to support data-driven decision-making. Design data portals and data products that are user-friendly, visually coherent, and present key insights effectively. Create compelling data visualizations tailored to technical and non-technical audiences. Apply user-centered design principles to ensure dashboards and tools are intuitive, accessible, and visually consistent. Use visual data storytelling techniques to communicate insights clearly and strategically. Incorporate geospatial and advanced visualization methods when relevant (maps, network graphs, etc.). Collaborate with economists, IT specialists, researchers, engineers, and governance specialists to translate requirements into effective visual solutions. Provide advice and training on visualization and reporting best practices. Contribute to developing internal standards and guidelines for data visualization and reporting. What you’ll need

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Visualization, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or related field. Graduate studies (Master’s or PhD) preferred. Experience: At least 2 years in data visualization or BI; 5+ years preferred. Proven experience developing visual products and UI/UX design for data products. Languages: Fluent in English and Spanish; knowledge of Portuguese and/or French a plus. Skills

Apply UI/UX design principles to create intuitive, user-friendly data interfaces. Translate complex datasets into visually compelling insights for decision-makers. Knowledge of geospatial visualization and advanced visual storytelling methods. Understanding of data governance, privacy, and open data standards. Expertise in Power BI and other visualization tools; experience embedding dashboards in web portals (Power BI Service, APIs, D3.js, Plotly). Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with technical and non-technical teams. Requirements

Citizenship: Citizen of one of IDB’s 48 member countries. Relocation and visa support may be available for eligible dependents. Consanguinity: No family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab. Type of contract and duration

International consultant, Full-Time, 18 months with possibility of extension up to 36 months. What we offer
