Overview
Nightpeak is seeking a Manager of Origination with experience dealing in power and capacity products in the WECC, CAISO and ERCOT market areas. This role requires experience building relationships with wholesale power market participants and load serving entities, and selling physical and financial products off traditional thermal and battery storage power plants with differing characteristics. The ideal candidate will leverage new and existing offtaker relationships to inform Nightpeak’s view of the market and help support the firm’s development and plant acquisition efforts. In this role, the Manager of Origination will be Nightpeak’s primary representative and business developer in the wholesale power markets. This role requires experience sourcing and executing structured products with various types of load serving entities and power marketers including: investor-owned utilities, commodity trading firms, community choice aggregators (CCAs), cooperatives, competitive retail providers, and large commercial and industrial business. The ideal candidate will have experience originating and negotiating traditional power purchase agreements (tolling agreements, capacity sales, busbar PPAs) as well as structured transactions (heat-rate call options, load following agreements, revenue puts), and has the creative instincts to source new and innovative transactions utilizing Nightpeak’s fleet of flexible generation resources. The role, like all at Nightpeak, requires an entrepreneurial mindset and high achieving attitude to grow the capability and effectiveness of our team to create great power plants. The candidate will be instrumental in building a strong company culture of integrity, accountability, hard work, collaboration, and success. Key Responsibilities
Source and lead negotiations for power and gas offtake products while managing internal and external resources Create project and company collateral and complete offer forms to sell Nightpeak’s projects and power products in various formal solicitations (RFOs) Manage relationships with wholesale power market customers and participants across CAISO WECC and ERCOT Support diligence and negotiation of project acquisition (M&A) efforts Coordinate with Chief Commercial Officer to execute hedging strategies across operating fleet of assets Champion market entry rationale and strategy Support project development and finance efforts Skills and Qualifications
At least 5 years of power origination experience required. Experience in conventional generation origination and power marketing a major plus. Established relationships and proven track record executing various types of long-term hedging agreements with IOUs, CCAs, cooperatives, and other power customers Ability to manage and balance the needs of customers, project developers, and traders Fluency in power products available and understand of market design in CAISO, unorganized WECC and ERCOT A passion for planning, proactivity, understanding interdependencies, clear communication, and organization Able to contribute to other aspects of Nightpeak’s business Proactive and resourceful, able to be self-sufficient in a small and effective team Well organized, highly communicative, and succinct About Nightpeak
