General Summary Neurohospitalist cover neurology consults for evaluation and management on a wide variety of conditions, including but not limited to stroke, TIA, seizure, headaches and neuromuscular disorders at Bayhealth Kent and Sussex Hospitals in Delaware. An acute tele-stroke team is available 24/7 to provide emergent evaluations for Acute Stroke Alerts.

The Neurohospitalist will work with the support of an APC and be available for bedside initial consults and follow-up. Primary admitting responsibilities will be managed exclusively by hospitalists and intensivists.

The Neurohospitalist will have a 1:5 call rotation. The Neurohospitalist will maintain a Full Time Schedule with 7 on 7 off rotations, unless otherwise specified.

Responsibilities

Perform appropriate physical exams and document appropriately and in a timely manner.

Utilize and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests (i.e., laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging and procedures appropriate to the specialty) and provide appropriate referral or consultation.

Provide patient education and counseling to promote wellness. Consistently address and provide resources for health risk behaviors.

Provide agreed upon coverage to care for patients in the appropriate settings (e.g., ambulatory office and/or hospital) during business hours and evenings/weekends, as mutually agreed upon and per medical staff bylaws.

Maintain and provide the clinical, technical and surgical skills to which credentialed to perform.

Use appropriate pharmacological dispensing consistent with patient age, medical conditions, allergies, drug interactions and duration of therapy, assuring quality of care in dispensing both narcotic and non-narcotic medication.

Participate in semiannual quality improvement initiatives.

Participate in teaching opportunities with medical students and residents.

Maintain an updated Delaware medical and CSR license and DEA license, including required continuing medical education (CME) and appropriate Board certification.

All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience

Education: Doctor of Medicine; Completed Residency. BC/BE per Bayhealth Medical Staff Bylaws.

Credential(s): Physician - Controlled Substance Registration; Physician MD; DEA Diversion Control Division; Board certified by a recognized National Board; or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) licensure. Must meet credentialing requirements as established by Bayhealth Medical Staff Services department. Board Certified/Board Eligible Neurologist.
