Overview
The Amarillo Veterans Health Care System, Amarillo, Texas is currently recruiting for a Gastroenterologist to provide direct patient care through GI consultations and follow-up care in General GI and Hepatology for both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) and a Recruitment or Relocation Incentive for highly qualified candidates. The Gastroenterologist must possess an active license in any state or territory in the United States and must maintain privileges at the Amarillo VA Health Care System to be able to work as a physician. The Gastroenterologist must be board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology and maintain professional competency as indicated in the delineation of privileges. All physicians must maintain current BLS certification as indicated per medical center policies. Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. The total rewards details can be found in the VHA Physician Total Rewards program. Recruitment/Relocation Incentive (Sign-on Bonus) Authorized for highly qualified candidates. Education Debt Reduction Program: Authorized (Student Loan Repayment). Pay includes competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases. Paid Time Off includes 50-55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and possible 5 days for CME). Retirement includes a traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% VA contributions. Insurance covers federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care. Licensure requires 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory. CME reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (full-time with board certification). Malpractice coverage with tail protection provided. Contract indicates No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive care for patients with illnesses within the scope of Gastroenterology, with an additional focus on patients with hepatitis. In addition to patient care, participate in education as needed. The Gastroenterology Staff Physician will be located in the Specialty Clinic at the Amarillo VA Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas. Coordinate activities of other health care providers and serve as an effective teacher for fellow staff, house staff medical students, and allied health disciplines. Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary care in both hospitalized and outpatient settings; identify health problems and design diagnostic and therapeutic plans; coordinate patient care and educate patients and families about care and management. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures: Colonoscopy procedures Polypectomy Flexible sigmoidoscopy Upper GI endoscopy Esophageal ligation or banding of varices Dilation of the esophagus (bouginage) Small bowel biopsy The Gastroenterologist must demonstrate the knowledge and skill to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including young adults (18-40), middle adults (41-65), and older adults (66+). Maintain licensure and board certification status as required, and maintain BLS certification per site policies. Qualifications
Active medical license in any state or territory and ability to maintain privileges at the Amarillo VA Health Care System. Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology; maintain professional competency as indicated in privileges delineation. Current BLS certification.
