Clinical Director / Lead Therapist – Inpatient Substance Use Disorder Facility Reports to:

Therapists, Case Management, Interns, Behavioral Health Technicians and other assigned staff
About us Rushton Recovery provides Medical Detox and Residential treatment services in the heart of South Lyon, MI. With a dedicated team of medical and therapeutic professionals, we offer 24/7 support during detox, individualized treatment plans for lasting recovery, and expertise in addressing the underlying symptoms of addiction.
Our 30+ acre campus offers evidenced-based treatment in a structured and spacious environment. We offer a wide variety of therapeutic, recreational, and mindfulness services to promote the healing process.
Our goal is to treat individuals, educate their families, and promote health through healing the mind, body, and spirit.
Position Summary The Clinical Director serves as both the primary therapist and the clinical leader of our inpatient substance use disorder facility. This position requires direct clinical engagement with clients while overseeing the therapeutic program’s integrity, compliance, and effectiveness. The Clinical Director ensures all treatment services align with ASAM Criteria, Michigan LARA regulations, and Joint Commission accreditation standards, while fostering an environment of recovery, accountability, and professional growth.
Minimum Requirements
Active Michigan license in good standing.
Master’s degree in Social Work (LMSW).
Provide evidence-based individual and group therapy for adults with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
Five (5) or more years of clinical experience in substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health treatment.
Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) – Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP)
Demonstrated knowledge and application of ASAM criteria in treatment planning and level-of-care decisions.
Proven ability to interpret, implement, and maintain compliance with LARA regulations and Joint Commission standards.
Exceptional judgment, crisis management, and decision-making skills.
Current CPR certification (employer-paid if not current) and completion of TB risk assessment.
Must be able to pass background check and drug screen.
Must be comfortable using a computer and navigating an electronic medical record system.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Leadership
Provide direct individual and group therapy for clients, maintaining an active caseload as the primary therapist.
Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, treatment planning, progress reviews, and discharge planning in accordance with ASAM guidelines.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation that meets Joint Commission and LARA requirements.
Facilitate family therapy and psychoeducational programming when appropriate.
Program Oversight & Compliance
Oversee and monitor all therapeutic services within Detox and Residential programs.
Ensure the program consistently meets or exceeds Joint Commission standards and complies with LARA regulations.
Lead regular audits of treatment records, group notes, and progress documentation.
Establish and enforce performance improvement initiatives, including program evaluations and outcome monitoring.
Supervision & Staff Development
Provide clinical and administrative supervision to therapists, interns, and clinical staff.
Facilitate case reviews, staff trainings, and ongoing professional development.
Review and co-sign clinical documentation for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
Foster an interdisciplinary team approach in collaboration with medical, nursing, and administrative staff.
Administrative Duties Participate in leadership meetings, strategic planning. Ensure adequate staff coverage for client care.
Desired Attributes
Strong passion for advancing evidence-based addiction treatment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and policy development.
Ability to balance clinical responsibilities with administrative leadership.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
Collaborative leadership style with ability to inspire and mentor staff while working with CEO, Medical Director and Health and Wellness Lead.
