Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director of Specialty Pharmacy, the Director of Community Specialty Pharmacy and Clinical Development provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for the health system's community-based specialty pharmacy, ambulatory pharmacy, and medication management services. This Director will drive innovation, advance health equity, optimize performance, and lead multidisciplinary teams in delivering high-quality, patient-centered pharmaceutical care across the continuum. The Director will also play a leading role in the development and advancement of clinical pharmacy services and integration of new initiatives to improve clinical care and revenue, including development of screening programs, clinical reporting, and pharmacy interventions designed to drive growth. The role is accountable for advancing quality, safety, regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, and growth across these service lines. The Director ensures all legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements are met across BMCHS, affiliates, and satellites, while upholding the mission and values of the organization.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

Strategic Leadership & Alignment: Translate system-wide strategic priorities into departmental goals, ensuring alignment across community pharmacy specialty programs and all other system pharmacy functions. Embed health equity and innovation into strategic planning, ensuring services address disparities in access, outcomes, and affordability. Anticipate trends in healthcare delivery, drug utilization, reimbursement, and policy to position BMCHS Pharmacy for long-term success. Serve as a key partner to senior executives and provide leadership on cross-departmental initiatives. Represent BMCHS in government and regulatory advocacy efforts to influence policy.

Financial Performance & Resource Stewardship: Drive financial accountability across pharmacy service lines, meeting or exceeding budgeted targets. Oversee specialty pharmacy, including specialty payer contract compliance and reporting. Optimize 340b strategies that support mission-driven patient care. Lead forecasting, investment planning, and resource allocation for sustainable growth. P&L responsibility: Support and advise VP and CPO, Executive Director of System Pharmacy for P&L responsibility for the outpatient, specialty and community pharmacy financial performance.

Operational & Clinical Excellence: Oversee safe, efficient, and patient-centered operations across specialty pharmacy service lines. Implement innovative care models, including innovative clinical pharmacy services, clinical pharmacy reporting, and technology-enabled medication management, to improve access and outcomes. Serve as a SME on developing revenue generating and quality focused clinical programs to be rolled out at BMCHS affiliated locations. Maintain best practices in specialty drug oversight.

Compliance, Accreditation & Governance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as accreditation standards. Maintain continuous readiness for inspections and audits, including 340B audits and compliance reviews. Develop and enforce policies that promote accountability and uphold BMCHS standards. Integrate equity-focused quality metrics into compliance frameworks.

People Leadership & Culture: Create and sustain a high-performing, inclusive work environment where staff are engaged and supported in professional growth. Lead, mentor, and develop staff across pharmacists, technicians, liaisons, and leaders. Drive workforce planning, succession planning, and talent development. Foster a culture of innovation, equity, inclusion, and patient-centered care.

Job Requirements REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Advanced degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) or related field required, or B.S. in Pharmacy + equivalent experience

5-10 years of experience in an academic medical center

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

10+ years of experience in an academic medical center preferred

4+ years of progressive Pharmacy leadership and clinical experience

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED p Valid license as a pharmacist in the State of Massachusetts is required upon hire CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS PREFERRED N/A

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs)

Demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity and reducing disparities

Proven ability to innovate care delivery through digital health, data analytics, AI, or novel clinical models

Expertise in 340B program

Expertise in clinical pharmacy programming

Strong understanding of payer, regulatory, and legislative landscapes

Demonstrated success in government advocacy and policy influence

Excellent strategic planning, contract negotiation, and organizational leadership skills

Ability to promote collaboration across multidisciplinary teams

Proven track record of developing, mentoring, and managing people
