Overview
Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Coon Laboratory, Division of Plastic Surgery. The Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery, at Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow for the Tissue Engineering and Wound Healing Laboratory (PI: Devin O'Brien Coon, MD, MSE). The Tissue Engineering and Wound Healing Laboratory is a state-of-the-art laboratory housed in the 16-story biomedical Thorn building, part of Brigham and Women\'s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliated institution. The lab has extensive facilities including qRT-PCR machines for molecular biology analysis, immunohistochemistry, FACS, optical microscopy, small and large animal surgery, cell cultures and access to transcriptomic sequencing. Current research projects include:
The effects of hormones on wound healing and scarring
Aging and senescence mechanisms in skin repair and regeneration
Molecular pathways of gonadotropic hormones on macrophage and fibroblast behavior in microtissue spheroids
Development of complex organ scaffolds, including decellularization and reseeding
The position is available for MD or PhD scientists with a relevant background, for example, wound healing biology and/or tissue engineering, tissue processing and analysis, or basic science. A strong biology background or prior lab experience are required.
Responsibilities The fellow will work closely with the PI and others in the lab to design and execute experiments, collect and verify data, and present findings at academic conferences and in publications. Techniques implemented in experiments include RNAseq, cell culture, qRT-PCR, histology, immunofluorescence, Nanostring, and flow cytometry, as well as both rodent and porcine animal surgery. Our lab has a strong animal research component though not all projects involve animal work; thus animal surgery background is beneficial but not required. The fellow will receive further training in year 2 for grant writing as a pathway to obtaining academic independence. The fellow will also have the option of attending one workshop on laboratory leadership or grantsmanship.
Qualifications
MD or PhD with a relevant background (e.g., wound healing biology and/or tissue engineering, tissue processing and analysis, or basic science)
A strong biology background or prior lab experience required
Experience with techniques such as RNAseq, cell culture, qRT-PCR, histology, immunofluorescence, Nanostring, and flow cytometry is expected
Animal surgery experience is beneficial but not required
