The City of Beverly Hills Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Communications Dispatcher. Communications Dispatchers answer all calls for emergency services and maintain radio and mobile data computer contact with police officers and firefighters in the field, acting as a lifeline by providing information and support and monitoring their safety. The ideal candidate will effectively communicate and coordinate in a teamwork environment, practice sound judgement, and think clearly under stress, responding quickly and accurately. This position is represented by the City\'s Safety Support (SS) Association and is covered by the negotiated terms and conditions of that Association\'s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The City provides a generous compensation and benefits package, including CalPERS 2.5% @ 55 for classic members; $2,150/month towards health insurance (with option of up to $475/month as taxable cash); a monthly contribution of $250 to an RHS account for retiree medical savings; generous vacation accruals with the option for annual cash-outs. You must attach a valid typing certificate showing your ability to type at least 45 words per minute. Online certificates are accepted.

Written Exam

The online written exam includes a typing test; assess your ability to type at least 45 words per minute. Candidates who have a minimum passing t-score of 48 or better on the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery within the last 12 months may provide results to qualify past this step.

Oral Interview(s) Background Check Applicants who do not attach a valid typing certificate will not move forward in the recruitment process. Typing certificates must be dated no more than one year from the date of applying. Online typing certificates are acceptable. Note:

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and attach a valid typing certificate will be required to complete an online written exam which includes a typing test. Background Investigation

Maintain radio and mobile data computer contact with City personnel in the field, acting as a lifeline to provide information and support and monitoring safety. Answer all calls to the City 911 number; coordinate emergency services; determine priorities; dispatch appropriate services; screen and route calls; determine needs and dispatch personnel. Receive and input information into City, State, and Federal systems; relay information to police. Log calls; monitor emergency bands 24 hours a day; contact appropriate services as needed. Maintain and change logging equipment; report malfunctions. Train new employees; perform clerical duties (record keeping, filing, reports, indexing). Provide pre-arrival Emergency Medical Dispatch instructions and lifesaving directions over the phone. Use policies and independent judgment to make rapid, accurate decisions; support departmental practices and protocols. Help new or existing staff learn practices and procedures; build positive working relationships; promote diversity and good customer service. Be an integral team player with flexibility, cooperation, and communication; perform related duties as assigned. Experience and Training

Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical requirements include:

Experience : No experience required.

Training : Completion of twelfth grade; POST Public Safety Dispatcher course desirable.

License and Certificate : Typing certificate showing 45 WPM.

Knowledge of : Principles of customer service, telephone etiquette; correct English usage; telephone communication techniques. Ability to

Learn and operate CAD, two-way radio, and telephone equipment; learn and apply Police and Fire services codes; learn California Penal Codes and department policies; learn FCC rules; communicate clearly both orally and in writing; think clearly under stress; type 45 WPM; maintain regular attendance; work various shifts; establish effective working relationships; work with diverse groups.
