Overview

We are recruiting on behalf of a confidential client in the energy sector seeking an experienced

Director, IT Applications Architecture . This leader will shape and oversee the enterprise applications ecosystem, drive integration strategy, and ensure seamless connectivity across business-critical systems. Reporting to the VP of Applications, this role will act as the technical visionary, aligning enterprise architecture with business goals while guiding delivery teams toward scalable, secure, and modern solutions. Responsibilities

Define and maintain application architecture strategies, standards, and governance frameworks. Oversee design reviews for multi-system initiatives to ensure scalability, security, and maintainability. Manage architectural decision records, technical debt, and application modernization strategies. Partner with broader IT architecture teams to align the application layer with infrastructure and enterprise roadmaps. Solution Design & Business Alignment

Collaborate with business leaders to understand complex processes and translate requirements into scalable solutions. Lead modernization of legacy systems, including cloud migration and digital transformation efforts. Evaluate and recommend vendors, platforms, and integration tools to strengthen enterprise application strategy. Integration & Middleware Oversight

Own integration architecture through middleware platforms to support seamless cross-system processes. Implement governance frameworks for integrations, including data mapping, error handling, and monitoring. Ensure secure, resilient, and compliant data flow across mission-critical business applications. Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing applications architecture team. Drive alignment across IT, business, and vendor partners. Establish and report on architecture performance metrics to executive leadership. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (advanced degree preferred). 10+ years of experience leading enterprise applications architecture and integration. Expertise in

application strategy, API management, middleware integration, and modernization initiatives . Track record of partnering with business leaders to align technology with organizational goals. Strong vendor management and executive presentation skills. Proven leadership with emotional intelligence and the ability to influence across functions. Location: Washington, DC; Salary: $145,000-$175,000
