Overview
The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial health and integrity of the organization. They work closely with the Executive Director and financial staff to ensure accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and fiscal accountability. This is a volunteer position, serving as a member of our Board. Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight:
Monitor the financial status of the organization, ensuring it remains in sound fiscal health. Reporting and Budgeting:
Review and present financial reports, including budgets, balance sheets, and income statements to the board. Ensure accurate financial documentation. Compliance and Accountability:
Ensure that the organization complies with all financial regulations and standards, including tax filings and audits. Financial Strategy:
Assist in developing financial strategies that align with the organization\'s goals and mission. Provide advice on cost-cutting, revenue generation, and financial sustainability. Collaboration with Staff:
Work closely with the Executive Director and any financial team members to ensure sound financial management practices are in place. Skills and Qualifications
Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and reporting. Knowledge of accounting principles and non-profit financial regulations. Ability to communicate financial information in a clear and concise manner to board members. Commitment to financial transparency and ethical financial practices. Day-to-Day Tasks
Work with the Executive Director and/or accountant to review monthly or quarterly financial statements (e.g., income statements, balance sheets). Ensure reports are accurate and presented to the board in a timely manner. Monitor cash flow and budgeting; regularly check on the organization\'s cash flow and approve significant expenses or transfers. Help prepare and oversee the annual budget, making adjustments as needed throughout the year. Ensure compliance with financial policies; review and recommend updates to financial policies and procedures when necessary. Present financial updates to the board; provide regular updates during board meetings and answer questions related to the organization\'s financial health. Support fundraising and grant management by tracking the financial aspects of grants, donations, and campaigns; ensure funds are allocated and spent according to donor/grant requirements. Work with external auditors to prepare for and oversee annual audits and ensure recommendations are implemented. Oversee expense approval; approve large expenditures in conjunction with the Executive Director or President and maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions. Seniority level
