Applications Engineer III (Semiconductor) – Fremont, CA
— This role is with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (M&SA EM) business, supporting North American sales efforts in semiconductor product developments. The position focuses on providing technical expertise, developing new techniques, and collaborating with customers and internal teams to drive successful applications and solutions. What you will do
Perform high-quality SEM (scanning electron microscopy) product demonstrations and develop new techniques and applications for Thermo Fisher partners and customers in the Semiconductor and Science marketplace. Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable solutions; provide technical product expertise throughout all phases of the sales cycle. Provide post-sales technical support and applications training after instrument installation. Provide continuous feedback to product groups on system performance, features, and potential issues; collaborate with marketing/development on future product developments. Guide customers in writing production recipes and qualification experiments to drive production use of FEI tools. Act as a primary communication conduit to the factory by reporting engineering and production issues from customers to FEI. Recommend and advise on directions for potential applications aligned with customer requirements and technical feasibility. Provide technical support to SSD, R&D, Manufacturing, Customer Service and other departments as required. How will you get here?
Education
Minimum educational requirement is a bachelor’s degree in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or Chemistry; advanced degree is preferred. Experience
5+ years’ experience in a relevant commercial, research, or production setting with recent experience utilizing microscopy technology in sample characterization. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge and hands-on experience with STEMFIB/SEM is required. Knowledge of advanced technology diagnostics, fault-finding techniques, operational optimization, and experience with analytical equipment—specifically electron/ion microscopes. Strong understanding of semiconductor device processing, statistical process control, device physics, and failure analysis techniques. About Thermo FisherScientific
