Overview

Radiation Therapists at Stanford Health Care provide radiation therapy as prescribed by a Radiologist or Oncologist, using established practices and standards. Duties may include reviewing prescriptions and diagnoses, coordinating with physicians and care staff, preparing equipment (immobilization, treatment, and protection devices), and maintaining records. Treatments may involve external-beam radiation therapy or brachytherapy. This role supports a wide patient population, including adults, pediatrics, and specialized cases in an academic medical center.

Responsibilities

Delivers treatment to patients and/or performs simulations according to prescriptions, treatment plans, and orders provided by the Radiation Oncologist. Explains procedures to patients/families and ensures safety by following department protocols. Reports deviations to the Operations Manager. Apply C-I-CARE principles to explain procedures, respond to patient concerns, monitor reactions to treatments, and reinforce patient education and side-effect management. Assure quality of treatment delivery through complete and accurate documentation of treatment records. Understand radiation oncology billing/coding; review treatment and simulation documentation for accuracy and collaborate with coders. Maintain a caring, professional atmosphere for patients, families, visitors, and staff; support a collaborative team culture. Maintain a safe and orderly treatment environment; assess setup issues, check safety controls, perform warm-up and calibration checks as needed, and report problems to management. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) ARRT-RTT CRTT

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of modern radiation therapy equipment and systems, including simulation, imaging, and treatment procedures Knowledge of human anatomy and proper patient positioning for treatment Knowledge of safety and quality control principles and methods Knowledge of training, coaching, and mentoring techniques Knowledge of scheduling and billing procedures Clinical reasoning and ability to assess and treat patients Ability to lead, coach, and instruct staff; plan, assign, and review work Ability to stay current with developments in clinical practice Ability to participate in safety, training, and quality improvement initiatives Effective communication and cooperative working relationships

Schedule and Work Environment

1.0 FTE, full-time, rotating 8-hour shifts. Monday–Friday, no weekends. On-call for Palo Alto; no-call for San Jose and Emeryville/Pleasanton.

Compensation

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $66.52 - $88.14 per hour. The final salary will be set based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
