We are looking for experienced Backend Software Engineers to join our growing team. This pooled requisition identifies top engineering talent for multiple backend-focused roles across different product and infrastructure teams. As a Software Engineer III, you will work on high-impact projects powering core backend services, distributed systems, APIs, and developer platforms that scale to millions of users. You will partner with product managers, frontend engineers, DevOps, and data teams to build robust and performant systems. We value engineers who thrive in ambiguity, solve hard technical problems, and prioritize quality and maintainability. What You’ll Do

Design and implement scalable backend services, APIs, and microservices Write clean, testable, and efficient code across the software stack Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design technical solutions for complex problems Own key parts of the backend architecture and contribute to its long-term evolution Review code, mentor junior engineers, and help raise engineering standards Improve performance, reliability, and observability of existing systems Participate in the full software development lifecycle from requirements to release Participate in on-call rotation and respond to issues as needed Who You Are

We are an AI-first company and value a growth mindset. This role supports leveraging AI to increase impact at Box. 3+ years of experience building backend systems in production Proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++) Experience with distributed systems, RESTful APIs, SOA, and databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) Strong understanding of systems design, data structures, and algorithms Familiarity with CI/CD, containerization, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and contribute to backend architecture discussions Excellent communication and a collaborative mindset Box lives its values and encourages in-person collaboration.
