Overview

The Clinical Research Center (CRC) Nurse Manager coordinates all 24-hour operations and management of all research staff on the Clinical Research Center. This at-will position is funded by contractual grant funding and employment is contingent upon continued receipt of these funds and satisfactory job performance. Responsibilities

Manages personnel issues including interviewing, hiring, salary setting, and administering annual performance evaluations; participates in corrective actions for underperforming employees. Assists in developing the CRC’s annual budget; monitors expense projections and provides decision-making for overall financial management and resource allocation. Oversees, develops, and implements operational policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the CRC. Maintains knowledge of all active clinical research protocols in the CRC and aligns protocol requirements with CRC SOPs and hospital policy. Acts as a resource for decision-making related to clinical compliance and protocol management. Allocates workload and assigns new protocols to CRC staff. Manages training for staff; serves as primary trainer for all CRC personnel and ensures in-services and protocol startup training are completed; ensures regulations, policies, and procedures are taught to CRC staff. Assists with CRC marketing strategies to investigators and sponsors; helps recruit new study opportunities. Coordinates initial entry and follow-up with participants enrolled in new research protocols; performs case management and schedules all research tests and procedures required by the protocol. Ensures supplies are available for scheduled studies. Collaborates with investigators, regulatory personnel, and ITM Research Subject Advocates to support protocol flow. Screens potential participants for eligibility, including clinical history review, prior records, performance status, and psychosocial status as indicators of study compliance. Disseminates information and coordinates with study teams and affiliate institutions for smooth protocol treatment flow; ensures protocol orders are carried out safely and in accordance with SOPs and accurate data collection. Provides direct nursing support when needed and presents cases to the research team or at multi-disciplinary conferences. Manages a team of nursing professionals delivering direct primary care and manages screening, referrals, and treatment delivery within protocols. May manage science and clinical research projects conducted by physicians. Performs other related work as needed. Qualifications

Education:

Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in a related field. Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications:

Registered Nurse (RN) – State of Illinois. Education – Preferred:

Advanced degree in Research Nursing. Experience – Preferred:

5-7 years as a clinical research nurse. Licenses and Certifications:

Current licensure as an advanced practice nurse (APN) or registered nurse (RN) in Illinois (NCLEX). Technical Skills:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Preferred Competencies:

Experience managing clinical research projects; supervisory skills; strong knowledge of regulatory policies and patient care fundamentals; excellent communication; ability to work independently and in a team; phlebotomy/IV skills strongly preferred. Working Conditions

Direct contact with research participants in a clinical care setting. Exposure to biological fluids, infectious material, and standard office environments. Application Documents
