CRC Nurse Manager – Biological Sciences Division, University of Chicago
Pay range: $100,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year. Base pay: $100,000.00/yr – $150,000.00/yr.
Job Summary The Clinical Research Center (CRC) Nurse Manager coordinates all 24‑hour operations and management of all research staff in the CRC. This at‑will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.
Responsibilities
Manages personnel issues including hiring, setting salaries, and administering performance evaluations.
Assists in developing the CRC’s annual budget and monitors expense projections.
Oversees the development and implementation of operational policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the CRC.
Maintains knowledge of all clinical research protocols active in the CRC and aligns protocol requirements with CRC SOPs and hospital policy.
Acts as a resource for decision‑making related to clinical compliance and protocol management.
Allocates workload, including distribution of new protocols and assignments to CRC staff members.
Manages training for staff members and is responsible for ensuring that in‑services and protocol start‑up training are completed adequately.
Assists with CRC marketing strategies to investigators and sponsors, helping to recruit new study opportunities.
Coordinates initial entry and follow‑up with participants enrolled in new research protocols, performs case management, and orders participant scheduling of all required research tests and procedures.
Ensures supplies are available for scheduled research studies.
Works well with investigators, regulatory personnel, and the ITM designated Research Subject Advocates.
Screens potential participants to determine eligibility by reviewing clinical history, prior records, performance status, and psychosocial status.
Disseminates information and coordinates with study teams to ensure smooth protocol flow for each participant.
Ensures protocol orders are carried out safely, compliant with SOPs, and result in accurate data collection.
Provides direct nursing support when needed.
Presents participant cases to appropriate members of the research team or at multidisciplinary conferences.
Manages a team of nursing professionals who provide direct primary care to patients.
Manages protocols for screening patients, providing referrals, and delivering treatment to patients.
May manage science and clinical research projects conducted by a physician.
Performs other related work as needed.
Education: Minimum Qualifications College or university degree in a related field.
Experience: Minimum Qualifications Knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related discipline.
Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) – State of Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Research Nursing.
Experience: Preferred
5–7 years of experience as a clinical research nurse.
Licenses and Certifications: Preferred
Current licensure as an advanced practice nurse (APN) or registered nurse (RN) in the State of Illinois from the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX).
Technical Skills or Knowledge
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Competencies
Experience managing clinical research projects.
Supervisory skills.
Advanced knowledge of research techniques or methods.
Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures.
Knowledge of patient care fundamentals, including aseptic principles and techniques.
