Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director (Digital Strategy) for the Rutgers Communications and Marketing (R-Comm) department.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Manages priority website design and redesign projects within the unit's portfolio.
Manages processes and schedules to liaise with internal constituents and externally with vendors to ensure streamlined processes for all projects.
Manages client engagement and project adaptation.
Ensures client acceptance and a plan for maintaining sites and content.
Assists in preparing budget requests and business cases for digital initiatives.
Manages analytics tracking and performance optimization of websites (load times, SEO, and accessibility).
Builds and maintains dashboards for web KPIs, creating reports and curating insights to recommend strategies that enhance overall website performance.
Trains and supports campus content owners on the CMS, digital tools, and best practices.
Maintains and enforces web standards, style guides, and editorial processes.
Conceptualizes, researches, and executes projects and initiatives requiring a high degree of sophistication and depth of knowledge to promote both Rutgers New Brunswick and Rutgers Health brands.
Works directly in content management systems and other tools to create, update, and maintain webpages while editing own work and work of the team.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in digital marketing, communications, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge, skill, and understanding of website management and publishing and digital reporting.
A minimum of five years of managing and publishing websites in higher education.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Organized and detail-oriented with strong planning, project management, and problem-solving skills.
Deep understanding of the complexities of a large university's organizational structure, mission, and strategic priorities.
Demonstrated practical experience, ability, and/or qualification in digital engagement and the principles of online communications.
Ability to create and adapt strategy, platforms, and content to a variety of audiences.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and get along with diverse personalities while being able to handle multiple competing priorities.
Ability to work confidently, diplomatically, and decisively under stress with senior administrators, faculty, students, staff, and others both internally and externally.
Must have Drupal CMS training.
Familiarity with audio/video production, and a solid knowledge of the digital media landscape. Experience utilizing digital platforms to communicate complex information successfully.
Experience using the Adobe Suite and analytics programs to produce analytics reports.
Ability to work effectively under pressure of deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree (MBA or related field).
Advanced experience and knowledge of managing digital communications issues within a large and complex organization.
Experience in higher education or large organizational environments.
Familiarity with advanced analytics, AI tools, and CRM systems.
Certification in project management (PMP, Agile).
Equipment Utilized
Primarily office-based with extensive use of computers and digital platforms.
Special Conditions
Some evening and weekend work is required.
Occasional intercampus travel is required.
Occasional travel for conferences, training, or vendor meetings may be required.
