Overview
The Vertex Alabama Refinery in Mobile is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of refinery operations, including production, safety, maintenance, workforce management, and regulatory compliance. This role is accountable for safe, efficient, and profitable performance of the facility. It requires strategic leadership, strong technical knowledge of refining processes, and the ability to manage complex industrial operations. Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
– Accountable for all aspects of refinery operations, including production planning, process optimization, and reliability. Safety & Environmental Compliance
– Champion a zero-incident safety and environmental culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all federal, state, and local regulations. Demonstrates understanding of management systems. Strategic Planning
– Oversee the development and execution of long-range operational and capital plans aligned with corporate objectives. Financial Management
– Manage refinery budgets, cost controls, and performance metrics to achieve targets. Directly responsible for refinery profit and loss performance. Maintenance & Reliability
– Oversee maintenance programs to continuously improve reliability, maintenance execution performance, and enhance turnaround performance to be an industry leader. Workforce Development
– Lead, mentor, and develop the site leadership team while supporting the development of all others. Stakeholder Communication
– Serve as the primary liaison with executive leadership, government agencies, and key community stakeholders. Emergency Preparedness
– Responsible for emergency response, business continuity, and environmental incident management. Qualifications & Requirements
10 years of progressive refinery or petrochemical experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership. Strong understanding of refining operations, process safety management, environmental regulations, project management, and turnaround execution. Demonstrated success in operational excellence, cost control, and team leadership in a refinery setting. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills. Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, high-risk industrial environment. Basic Requirements
Must be authorized to work in the United States permanently on a full-time basis without requiring sponsorship. Must possess and maintain a current valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States. Must be able to read, speak, and write English fluently. Hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Adhere to site alcohol and drug standards including random drug screenings. As part of the pre-employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre-employment background checks including drug screening (including a hair sample), medical evaluation, and reference checks.
