Overview
Salesforce is seeking a Senior Manager/Director to lead the Microservices Platform network engineering efforts. The team designs, builds, and maintains ingress services and solutions that support internal and external customers, including micro-segmentation, zero-trust, mTLS, monitoring, and automation within public and private clouds. Hire, retain, and develop talent; grow the team and guide technical direction.
Lead the team delivering distributed systems to provide service mesh controls at the network level across Salesforce’s public and private clouds, including network policy management, DDoS and network protection for bare metal servers, containers, and VMs.
Lead research and implementation of new ingress/service mesh solutions and platforms for intra- and inter-datacenter network flows.
Advance and operate security platforms in a full DevOps model.
Operate in an Agile development environment, including participating in daily scrums.
Support engineering excellence through code reviews and establishing best software development practices.
Partner with other engineering teams and executives to develop short- and long-term security, product, and service strategies.
Collaborate with other teams to solve security problems with minimal disruption to business functions.
Required Skills
Industry experience: 10+ years total, including: 5+ years in SaaS, PaaS or IaaS software development
5+ years in a high-availability 24/7 environment
5+ years in public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
2+ years with Service Mesh, Istio, Envoy development and deployment
Management experience: 3+ years of direct people management with at least 5 direct reports.
Service Mesh technologies: Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio; OSI model and debugging network traffic; networking protocols (TCP/UDP, BGP, DNS, DHCP).
Platform development: proven track record delivering large-scale PaaS or IaaS systems for public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Programming: proficiency in Golang, Java, C++, or Python (object-oriented, multi-threaded).
Full software ownership from idea to production: design, code, unit tests, integration tests, deployment, and production support.
Linux development and software management (e.g., CentOS, RHEL).
Security fundamentals: secure transport (SSL/TLS), identity management (certificates, PKI).
DevOps mindset and ownership over code (test, monitor, deploy, maintain).
Communication: excellent verbal and written skills.
Team-oriented with focus on collective success.
Experience designing and operating network security technologies within public cloud environments.
Strong distributed systems and architecture knowledge; understanding risks in large-scale systems.
Education: MS in CS/Engineering or BS with equivalent experience.
Desired Skills
Prior understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Terraform, Helm chart experience.
