Advertised Compensation: $48,607.00 to $57,929.00

Purpose The purpose of the General Manager I (GM) position is to manage a QSR restaurant or small cluster of restaurants or points-of-sale in close proximity to each other with Sales of generally up to $5M. The GM ensures the restaurant is clean, staffed, open for business, and operates to high operational and financial standards. The GM uses broad discretion and judgement to make great leadership decisions and is responsible for the overall success of the restaurant.

Essential Functions

Open and Close

Ensures all assistant managers and staff recognize the importance of closing the restaurant to prepare for opening, and holds Shift Managers accountable for executing opening and closing checklists/requirements.

Staffing/Deployment

Understands, adopts, and demonstrates defined manager behaviors designed to create an environment where employee engagement thrives.

Deploys staff and resources to maximize profitability within the restaurant and accepts P&L responsibility.

Assigns work tasks, prepares schedules, and ensures shifts are covered.

Provides staff with consistent support, coaching and encouragement to achieve business goals.

Interviews candidates, makes hiring/termination/advancement decisions, and promotes HMSHost as an employer of choice within the local community.

Ensures diversity and inclusion philosophy is understood and executed within the restaurant.

On-boarding and off-boarding of associates, including badging, orientation, on-the-job training, and related processes.

Reads and understands financial and operational data to monitor progress toward unit goals and assigns staff accordingly.

Recognizes staff contributions and supports recognition initiatives; motivates teams with plans and programs.

Adopts and champions Employee Engagement behaviors.

Maintains current contact information for all associates.

Product Availability/Working Equipment

Ensures daily orders are prepared and units stocked with appropriate product levels; teaches order procedures.

Oversees receiving, invoicing, and vendor communications for supply issues.

Maintains proficiency in management systems and tools used by the company.

Monitors and maintains equipment, schedules routine service or repairs.

Participates in company responses to NSF and other audits.

Minimizes waste and participates in food donation programs.

Brand Knowledge/Proficiency

Assesses skill levels and coordinates on-the-job training as needed.

Embraces technology and encourages adoption of new company technologies.

Maintains knowledge of brand standards, CBAs, leases, and procedures to maximize relations and train staff.

Develops and implements strategies to increase revenue.

Visual/Vibe/Appeal

Manages day-to-day activities of associates within defined restaurants or POS.

Resolves customer and associate inquiries; escalates complex issues as needed.

Provides ongoing feedback aligned with development and business goals.

Implements marketing programs and complies with promotions; supports AB programming and related sales initiatives.

Safety

Maintains understanding of federal, state, and local safety standards and company procedures.

Holds managers accountable for safety compliance.

Trains on wellness checks and COVID-19 requirements; participates in health and safety activities per company guidelines.

Reporting relationships and other important information

The GMI position is exempt under FLSA (Administrative and Executive exemptions).

Typically reports to the Director of Operations or an intermediate leader within the location.

Expected to work a varied and rotating schedule, including opening and closing shifts.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment

GMIs must have documented experience managing restaurant types similar to the role (QSR, Casual Dine, Full Service, etc.), with responsibility for P&L success. Typically 3+ years of P&L management and 5-7 years of restaurant experience in the relevant type.

Graduation from a Food Service Management or Culinary program may substitute for some experience.

Demonstrates team management, delegation, issue resolution, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.

Knowledge of HMSHost policies, products, service standards, and operations, or ability to learn quickly.

Ability to read, understand instructions, policy documents, menus, and brand standards; comfortable communicating with others.
