Position Description
Our Staff Engineer is an influential technical leader and key member of the engineering staff working across the organization to provide a friction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high-quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge, typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between, and demonstrates a proactive, critical thinking approach to complex problem-solving and driving technological advancement.
Responsibilities
Provide influential technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams.
Own complete solution across its entire life cycle.
Proactively influence and collaboratively build vision with product managers, principal engineers, architects, team members, and customers to solve complex enterprise-class problems, demonstrating clear, concise communication and active listening.
Be accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions.
Lead impactful architectural design discussions and contribute to elevating the quality of engineering through peer reviews across the organization.
Utilize programming languages like Java, open-source frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot), container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, Kafka, and a variety of Azure tools and services including Azure Boards and Azure AppInsights, alongside cloud data platforms like Snowflake.
Mentor more junior team members professionally to help them realize their full potential.
Share best practices and drive improvements within and across teams, fostering curiosity and innovation to advance our technology and processes.
Drive digital transformation initiatives, including modernizing and migrating legacy applications.
Qualifications
Fluency and specialization with Java and at least one other modern language (e.g., C++, C#) including object-oriented design.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly, concisely, and directly, both verbally and in writing.
Experience providing independent technical leadership and mentoring engineers with significant depth.
Deep architectural maturity with the ability to influence broadly through technical vision.
Strong problem-solving autonomy, particularly in troubleshooting production issues and devising scalable solutions.
Experience building products using microservices and extensible REST APIs.
Experience designing architecture and patterns for reliability and scaling, with a holistic view on system design.
Experience collaborating with architects and technical leaders to shape engineering strategy.
Fluency in DevOps concepts, cloud architecture, and Azure DevOps, including continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
Experience with Azure Portal, Azure Boards, and SonarQube; familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Strong observability practice, using tools such as Azure AppInsights, Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, or Splunk.
In-depth understanding of cloud infrastructure, especially Microsoft Azure and its services.
Experience in security protocols and products: Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, and related mechanisms.
Knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with developer tooling across the software development life cycle (including webhook, Kafka, Snowflake, and related technologies).
Proven experience driving digital transformation, including migrating or modernizing complex legacy applications.
Experience
12+ years of professional software development experience, with significant impact in a lead or principal engineering role—primarily in Java (Spring Boot).
5+ years of experience in architectural design and leading major initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional technical leadership.
4+ years of experience with open-source frameworks.
3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
Annual Salary $105,000.00 - $230,000.00
