$105,000.00/yr - $230,000.00/yr Annual Salary: $105,000.00 - $230,000.00. The above range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final salary offer (scope and responsibilities, work location, experience, etc.). Position Summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will help drive our data analytics and platform engineering transformation as we move from a traditional IT model to a technology-driven organization focused on engineering excellence. You will lead the design and development of automated solutions to replace manual platform administrative tasks and lead efforts to build data pipelines, models, and reports, transforming large datasets that reach terabytes in size, while promoting innovation and continuous improvement.

Position Description

Our Staff Engineer is a key member of the engineering staff who works across the organization to provide a frictionless experience for customers and to maintain high standards of protection and availability. The role requires broad and deep technical knowledge, including architecting scalable automation frameworks, software/API development, platform functionality enhancements, governance strategy, and enterprise-wide practices for administration, observability, and data processing governance.

Position Responsibilities

Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems Utilize technologies for data processing, reporting, and automation (Python, SQL, NoSQL, DBT, Apache Spark, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure tools) Develop high-quality data visualizations and reports (Power BI, Apache Superset) Lead adoption of new features and tooling to drive innovation Define automation strategies for administrative and governance tasks across Power Platform and Power BI Design automation solutions using PowerShell, REST APIs, and CI/CD pipelines Lead automation initiatives for provisioning, license management, dataset refreshes, workspace lifecycle, and platform health monitoring Collaborate with security, compliance, and data governance to ensure alignment with enterprise policies Lead proof-of-concepts and evaluations of emerging Microsoft features Develop enterprise-wide standards for monitoring, auditing, and reporting; provide executive-level insights on platform health and adoption Participate in design sessions and code reviews to elevate engineering quality; mentor other engineers Drive engineering and operational excellence and reduce manual effort

Qualifications

Advanced programming and big data experience with Python, SQL, DBT, Spark, Kafka, Git, Docker, Kubernetes Experience with data warehouses, OLAP, dimensional modeling and analytics Strong BI and ETL tool knowledge (Power BI preferred; SSIS or DBT preferred) Experience with Apache Iceberg is a plus Understanding of SQL concepts (MPP, No-SQL, Cloud data warehouses) Experience architecting ETL and BI systems; supporting existing systems Proven expertise in PowerShell, Power BI REST APIs, Graph API, and automation frameworks Power BI administration (workspaces, security, governance) and Power Platform administration Experience architecting CI/CD pipelines for Power BI and Power Platform (Azure DevOps or GitHub) Strong identity, access management, and compliance knowledge in Microsoft 365 and Azure AD Experience with enterprise orchestration tools such as Airflow preferred Ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic environment DevOps concepts including Azure DevOps framework and tools Knowledge of developer tooling across SDLC Monitoring concepts and tooling with strong problem-solving ability Experience with Power Platform and multiple data domains is preferred Experience with front-end development (React/JavaScript) is a plus

Experience

8+ years in data/analytics/database engineering, programming with big data tech 5+ years in data architecture and design, especially data warehousing 5+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service 4+ years of software development with SQL technologies 4+ years with open-source frameworks 4+ years with BI and ETL tools 3+ years with Spark and Databricks 2+ years with Microsoft Fabric/Azure Data Factory preferred

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Data Analytics, or equivalent
