Overview
Mapp Biopharmaceutical, Inc. is a San Diego based, innovative biopharmaceutical company focused on addressing unmet medical needs through the development of life-saving monoclonal antibody treatment options to combat a variety of neglected and tropical infectious diseases, and in support of biodefense programs. The Early Research and Development Group (ERDG) and the Advanced Research and Development Group (ARDG) at Mapp Biopharmaceutical are responsible for the execution of high quality Research and Development activities to ensure the achievement of a robust portfolio through CMC, Nonclinical, Regulatory, Project Management, and Clinical activities consistent with Mapp\'s product development objectives. The Research Scientist works in the antibody discovery group which is responsible for isolating novel antibodies that may be used in future drug products. This includes creating and producing the antigens necessary to isolate these antibodies and assessing the antibodies for their potential as therapeutics. The Research Scientist, Antibody Discovery and Research will provide overall support for our projects including design, execution, supervision, analysis and interpretation of results. Basic Qualifications
PhD or equivalent in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, virology, and/or related field Post doc experience or other appropriate scientific experience Author on scientific publications in respected peer reviewed journals Demonstrated excellence in the following competency areas: Protein expression in bacterial, mammalian and insect cell systems Protein purification, including experience with automated HPLC and FPLC systems, fluency in GE Unicorn FPLC software Flow cytometry and single B-cell sorting techniques Experience in leading scientific personnel to execute against program deliverables Experience with ForteBio Octet technology and isothermal titration calorimetry Hands-on experience operating IncuCyte and similar high-content live-cell imaging systems Experience effectively troubleshooting experimental strategies in the laboratory Preferred Qualifications
Experience with primer design and RT-PCR particularly for monoclonal antibody isolation and cloning from single B-cells Experience expressing and purifying viral proteins Experience with reverse genetics and pseudo typed viral vector systems Command of in-silico workflows for antibody and protein engineering and optimization Development of functional cell based assays/immunoassays to assess mechanism of action and potency of new antibody candidates (e.g. reporter assay, internalization assay, neutralization assay, shedding assay ADCC-assay, ADCP-assay, multi-color flow etc.) Generation of stable cell lines using lentivirus transduction and validation of those cell lines via flowcytometry and western blot Responsibilities
Optimizes and designs expression constructs for protein stability, solubility and expression levels Designs and optimizes strategies to generate and purify proteins of interest for subsequent in vitro and in vivo applications Designs and develops novel in vitro assays to assess antibodies for binding and activity Supervises research scientists at various levels as needed Reviews and synthesize new research findings regularly Maintains detailed records of all experiments performed Presents and communicates effectively experimental results to the group Benefits and Compensation
Mapp offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The anticipated pay scale for this position is $80,000 to $130,000 per year plus any applicable bonuses. Final salary offered will depend on factors including education and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, basic life insurance, short and long term disability, and a 401K plan with company contributions. Full-time employees accrue vacation days, sick time, and holidays as described. This position is on-site at Mapp\'s San Diego facility. Travel is required (Domestic ~2x/year; International ~1x/year).
