Research Scientist II/III, DNA Synthesis
– Redmond, WA. This role focuses on oligonucleotide synthesis, surface functionalization, and molecular biology to advance proprietary semiconductor DNA synthesis technology and diagnostic applications. Responsibilities
Develop and synthesize desired organic compounds. Select and employ analytical techniques for synthesized compounds. Develop and perform on-machine oligo synthesis with various modifications. Develop surface functionalization for metal and non-metal surfaces for solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis. Select and employ analytical techniques for surface characterization. Explore methods to enhance surface stability and functional loading. Contribute knowledge in nucleic acid chemistry, specifically phosphoramidite-based oligonucleotide synthesis. Transfer technology to the production team and support process improvement or troubleshooting. Perform statistical data analysis and present the results. Qualifications
Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field; or MS with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience. Expertise in nucleoside, nucleotide, and solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis. Strong foundation in organic chemistry and photochemistry. In-depth understanding of nucleic acid chemistry and phosphoramidite-based synthesis. Hands-on experience with total synthesis and purification techniques (column chromatography, HPLC, Biotage). Proficiency in handling sensitive materials (preferred). Familiarity with laboratory automation tools (a plus). Advanced molecular biology skills, including PCR, qPCR, hybridization assays, and next-generation sequencing (NGS). Proven collaboration within interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams. Results-driven and proactive in experimental design and problem-solving. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong documentation skills for technical reports and technology transfer to manufacturing. Highly self-motivated and passionate about driving innovation in biotechnology. Benefits
