For more information, please visit www.heelstoneenergy.com. POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Corporate Counsel will support Heelstone’s project development pipeline from site acquisition to construction. They will provide expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating documents relating to acquiring or leasing land. Responsibilities include managing and resolving all title and environmental issues to support project financings. This is a full-time position located in Durham, North Carolina, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer. Responsibilities
Assist with drafting site control documents, licenses, easements, etc. Work with development and finance teams to assist with landowner issues or documentation. Manage and oversee land closings. Review title and survey for development projects for any fatal flaws. Create an action items list and resolve any title issues/defects on any development projects in preparation for financings. Manage and oversee any real estate diligence, comments, and revisions to title and survey requested by financings in a timely manner. Perform land and environmental due diligence and provide guidance to the development team regarding project acquisition and greenfield development. Manage and resolve environmental and wetland issues for projects. Stay abreast of environmental law and policy issues to advise internal teams as needed. Ensure quality, clarity, and consistency across legal documents. Provide support to internal teams and engage external parties to assist in the execution of transactions and key contracts. Contribute to the development and improvement of contract templates and internal processes. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Possess effective time management, project management, dispute resolution, and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all different levels in a transaction in a respectful and professional manner. Team player who can integrate well with a high-performing team. Comfortable engaging in commercial negotiations and drafting. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Self-starter that operates well in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment. Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects, prioritize efforts, and work effectively under pressure. JD from an accredited law school. Current license to practice law. 3-5 years of experience in a similar role with a focus on renewable energy. Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Experience working with Datarooms such as Box, DropBox, and SharePoint.
