Purpose The purpose of the General Manager I (GM) position is to manage a QSR restaurant or small cluster of restaurants or points-of-sale in close proximity to each other with Sales of generally up to $5M. The GM ensures the restaurant is clean, staffed, open for business, and operates to high operational and financial standards. The GM uses broad discretion and judgement to make great leadership decisions and is responsible for the overall success of the restaurant.

Responsibilities

Open and Close: Ensure all assistant managers and staff recognize the importance of closing the restaurant to prepare for opening, and hold Shift Managers accountable for executing closing and opening checklists/requirements.

Staffing/Deployment: Understands, adopts, and demonstrates defined manager behaviors to create an environment where employee engagement thrives; deploys staff and resources to maximize profitability and accepts P&L responsibility; assigns tasks, prepares schedules, and ensures shifts are covered.

People leadership: Provide staff with consistent support, coaching and encouragement to achieve business goals; interview candidates and make hiring/termination decisions; promote HMSHost as an employer of choice; ensure diversity and inclusion concepts are understood and executed; onboard and offboard associates with proper training and compliance.

Operations and Analytics: Read and understand financial and operational data to monitor progress toward unit goals and assign staff accordingly; recognize staff contributions and motivate the team; champion Employee Engagement behaviors; maintain current contact information for all associates.

Product Availability/Working Equipment: Manage daily orders, stock levels, receiving, invoices, and vendor communications; maintain proficiency with management systems and ensure equipment is serviced as needed; participate in audits and minimize waste.

Brand Knowledge/Proficiency: Assess skill levels, coordinate training, embrace new technologies, uphold brand standards, contracts, and procedures; develop revenue-enhancing strategies.

Visual/Vibe/Appeal: Manage day-to-day activities of associates, resolve issues, provide ongoing feedback, and implement marketing programs as directed to drive revenue.

Safety: Maintain understanding of applicable safety standards and ensure adherence; train managers/associates on wellness and health protocols, including COVID-19 requirements.

Reporting relationship and other important information: The GMI position falls under the Fair Labor Standards Act as an Exempt position (Administrative and Executive exemptions); typically reports to the Director of Operations or an intermediate leader; expects varied and rotating schedules to cover opening, busy dayparts, and closing hours as needed.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment

3+ years of restaurant P&L management experience with 5–7 years of working restaurant experience in similar formats (QSR, Casual Dining, etc.).

Graduation from a Food Service Management or Culinary program may substitute for part of the experience requirement.

Proven team management, delegation, and issue-resolution skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.

Knowledge of HMSHost policies, products, service standards, equipment, and operations; ability to demonstrate this knowledge within a reasonable time from hire or promotion.

Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, policy documents, and menus; comfortable communicating with diverse individuals.
