Job Summary : The PA Surgical Specialty-Operative is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who delivers direct patient care with prescriptive authority. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician’s scope of practice. Surgical providers care for adult and pediatric patients and may specialize in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Cosmetic, Vascular, Trauma, Transplant, Urology, Plastics, or other surgical specialties. The role is credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. Essential Functions of the Role
Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories. Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs. Prescribe, recommend, or use medical drug therapies or related treatments. Perform procedures following approved policies, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommend interventions to change behavior linked to health risks. Formulate and implement comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborate with physicians and team members as appropriate. Evaluate patient response and the effectiveness of care. Counsel patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsel on drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with supplements, OTC medicines, and herbal remedies. Maintain appropriate records detailing treatment plans and outcomes. Initiate timely consultations and referrals when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise. Provide consultation-level services for conditions related to the provider’s specialty, based on experience and training. Manage patients in settings beyond the primary clinic (e.g., inpatient, emergency services, surgical, procedural, etc.). Perform invasive procedures within scope of practice and delegated authority by the supervising physician. May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on department coverage needs. Key Success Factors
Knowledge of information and techniques to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities, including symptoms, treatment options, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures. Knowledge of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation practices; strong verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills; critical thinking and problem-solving. Computer literacy and ability to implement comprehensive, outcomes-based treatment plans. Ability to counsel patients on medical and psychological/psychiatric conditions and behavior modification; interpret and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Current Texas license to practice as a Physician Assistant; Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer; NCCPA certification. Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an Accredited Program Experience: Less than 1 year of experience Certification/License: Physician Assistant (PA) with BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer; current NCCPA certification Belonging Statement
