Overview

Nocturnist Neurosurgery Physician Assistant Operative role at Baylor Scott & White Health. The Neurosurgery PA Specialized Surgery Operative is a licensed, certified non-physician healthcare provider who renders direct patient care, has delegated prescriptive authority, and is credentialed and privileged, with services billed as an independent provider as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid within the healthcare system, and in accordance with the appropriate board. The Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care based upon the scope of practice as delineated by the supervising physician. The PA Specialized Surgery Operative provides care for both adult and/or pediatric patients in the specialties of neurosurgery and/or spine surgery.

Responsibilities

Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories. Monitor patients across the health care continuum and develop strategies to avoid hospitalization and/or decrease length of stay. Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs. Prescribe, recommend and/or employ medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatments and procedures within scope of practice; initiate consultations as appropriate. Formulate and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, standards of care, and guidelines in collaboration with physicians and other team members. Evaluate patient responses to care and adjust treatment as needed. Counsel patients and families regarding medical processes, management of conditions, medications, nutrition, and health promotion; discuss drug regimens and potential interactions. Maintain patient records detailing treatment plans and outcomes; initiate timely referrals when scope of practice is exceeded. Provide consultation-level services for conditions related to the specialty and level of expertise. Assist in the operating room as First or Second Assist, with competency as required by training and supervision. See patients in multiple settings (clinic, inpatient rounding, emergency department) and provide pre-operative and postoperative care. Perform invasive surgical procedures and/or advanced technology procedures specific to neurosurgery/spine, as delegated by the supervising physician and within competency.

Qualifications

Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas. Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer. Education: Graduation from an accredited PA program. Experience: Less than 1 year of experience.
