Overview
The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and education organization. This role supports ULI’s People Team with recruitment and core HR functions, along with operational initiatives to improve consistency and efficiency across the Institute. Base pay range: $60,000.00/yr - $67,500.00/yr. Actual compensation will be based on experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors. Note: This role requires in-person engagement, with employees in the office at least three days a week to support collaboration and culture. Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition (60%):
Support recruitment processes including job postings, resume screening, interview coordination, candidate communications, and offers. Prepare offer letters and oversee pre-employment steps (references, background checks, onboarding). Partner with hiring managers to ensure a fair, consistent, and positive candidate experience. Communicate and uphold ULI’s talent acquisition policies, promoting equity, consistency, and inclusivity. Maintain accurate recruitment and employee data in HR systems (ADP Workforce Now). HR Generalist Activities (30%):
Support benefits administration, payroll coordination, and compliance reporting. Provide guidance on policies, procedures, and employee relations issues, escalating as appropriate. Serve as a flexible resource across the HR team, stepping in as needed for payroll, TA, or HR support. Partner with HR Business Partners to ensure consistency and alignment across HR activities. Support employee onboarding, orientation programs, and day-to-day HR operations. HR Projects & Operational Support (10%):
Document and maintain HR standard operating procedures (SOPs). Support HR team projects that improve processes, systems, and employee experience. Contribute to HR initiatives that build consistency, efficiency, and alignment across ULI. Other Key Responsibilities:
Proactively source and outreach for high-priority and hard-to-fill roles, with a focus on increasing diversity and representation. Contribute to employer branding initiatives through recruitment content, social media engagement, and external partnerships. Assist with special projects such as talent dashboards, intern program logistics, DEI hiring initiatives, and process documentation. Provide general support to the People Team, including onboarding logistics, training coordination, HR documentation upkeep, and internal communications/surveys. Qualifications
1–2 years of experience in talent acquisition, HR coordination, or related administrative/people-facing role. Strong understanding of HR principles and practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to inclusive hiring practices and a positive workplace culture. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Communications, or related field; nonprofit or mission-driven experience; familiarity with sourcing tools; experience with ATS; experience in global/multi-site recruitment; interest in real estate, land use, or urban planning. How to apply
