Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center (SMMHC), a TJC-accredited hospital, has an opportunity for a
primary care physician
to provide basic medical care to our patients. The hospital currently serves approximately 320 patients with an average length of stay measured in months to years. Our clients' ages range from early adulthood into their 80's, so there are a wide range of both health maintenance and treatment needs to be provided. This is not a typical hospitalist position as the best candidates will want to cultivate long-term physician-patient relationships with those patients they serve. You will be working with a staff of professionals where the culture is collaborative and the energy is high. Patient loads are relatively low (60-80 long-term patients total, usually seeing less than 10 patients per day) and you will collaborate with other primary care physicians and nurse practitioners, along with psychiatrists/psychiatric NP's and other treatment team members on the wards to which you are assigned. The facility is located in Farmington, a community of about 15,000 on the edge of the Ozarks with a low cost of living, good schools and many opportunities for outdoor recreation. Farmington has a small town's friendliness and charm while being only about an hour from St. Louis and all the amenities of a large city. Our salaries are competitive and our benefits are excellent. They include a defined-benefit pension fully funded by the State of Missouri (vested in only 5 years), Medical, Disability, Dental and Vision Insurance, Life Insurance Options (some fully paid by the State), Flexible Spending Accounts, Self-Funded Retirement Accounts and special low-cost programs for everything from cell phones to mortgages. A full and unrestricted Missouri license is preferred, but we will consider applicants who have completed academic training but are currently unlicensed.
