Overview
Director, Design & Project Management UCLA Facilities Management, Design and Project Management (DPM) Department oversees complex design-focused projects including interiors and hardscapes, managing client relationships from inception to completion. The team collaborates across campus to keep projects on track and within budget, leveraging leadership, financial, and project management skills. Responsibilities
Oversee development and implementation of campus-wide strategy focused on infrastructure improvement and aesthetics, contributing to a positive visual experience for campus stakeholders and visitors. Manage projects estimated to be around $100M annually, including interior building projects, landscaping, and outdoor infrastructure; handle energy efficiency initiatives as part of project management for existing facilities. Lead and coordinate a team of project managers, architects, design staff, and administrative personnel; collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Serve as a member of UCLA Facilities Management leadership; report to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Facilities Management. Address policy development, strategic planning, and consensus-building to support large organizational goals the campus. Qualifications
5–10 years in architecture, engineering, urban design, city planning, or landscape architecture (Required). 5–10 years of experience in business administration, people management, design and construction, energy efficiency, and project management of existing facilities (Preferred). Formal knowledge of architecture or engineering; licensed Architecture or Engineering (Required). General contracting knowledge with construction management and industry trends; understanding codes, legal, regulatory issues, and UC Sustainable Practices (Required). Ability to assess internal client needs and formulate concise proposals with feasible time frames (Required). Proven experience managing large budgets with year-over-year changes and cost control to deliver value (Required). Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills for a complex service-oriented organization (Required). Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously; deep knowledge of project management methodologies and systems (Required). Ability to work as a campus management team member with policy development and strategic planning skills (Required). Experience working with all levels of management and diverse stakeholders; ability to foster teamwork and respect (Required). Strong negotiating and decision-making skills related to contracts and procurement (Required). Experience translating business requirements into functional information systems; working knowledge of databases, AutoCAD, spreadsheets, and related technology (Required). Superior written and oral communication skills (Required). Education, Licenses, Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training (Required). Master’s Degree preferred. License to practice in architecture, engineering, urban design, city planning, or landscape architecture (Required). Certificate to practice in related professions (Required). Special Conditions
