Position Overview KIPP DC is looking for a dynamic, committed and flexible mental health practitioner to become part of a vibrant educational community. KIPP DC mental health practitioners are responsible for delivering effective, high-quality, data-driven interventions. The role drives the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students and families through a responsive continuum of services to ensure academic growth. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm two times per week, and 7:30 am to 4:00 pm three times per week. This is an exempt position reporting to the school leader. This position is for the 2025-26 school year. Key Responsibilities Service Delivery (35%): Provide group and individual therapy and classroom support to special education and general education students, and assess responses to interventions. Respond to acute mental health crises and provide appropriate intervention services to students and families. Develop and manage student behavior intervention plans; monitor progress and consult with teachers to promote implementation. Conduct student and classroom observations to monitor progress. Provide ongoing consultation to teachers, parents, and school personnel to support learning, behavioral challenges, and mental health needs. Conduct risk assessments when safety concerns arise. Support MTSS across Tier 1, 2, and 3 levels as part of the mental and behavioral health programming. Workflow Documentation Complete special education paperwork for meetings; log progress notes with IEP goals, interventions, and session plans in a timely manner. Serve as 504 case manager for students with 504 plans; monitor accommodations and provide behavior support as applicable. Collect data to track plan fidelity and progress toward IEP, Tier 3 plans, and BIPs. Collect data on social/emotional and behavioral functioning for referrals. Stakeholder Collaboration Consult with school leaders, teachers, and student support teams to offer prevention and intervention strategies. Support stakeholders in understanding the integration of child development, academics, and social-emotional functioning. Demonstrate a collaborative problem-solving mindset with students, families, educators, and community members. Work with Community Based Organizations to make referrals for mental health services. Collaborate to decrease chronic absenteeism and truancy. School and Community Support Serve as the school liaison to social service agencies. Act as the School-Based Homeless Liaison, identifying and supporting families in need of housing through referrals and services. Participate in mediations, administrative reviews, discipline hearings, and due process proceedings as related to caseload. Participate in Open Houses, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and other events engaging parents outside normal hours. Qualifications Master’s Degree in social work or professional counseling. (Required) Licensure as a social worker or professional counselor by the District of Columbia Department of Health (DOH). (Required) Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor (Preferred) Commitment to working with students with limited access to quality educational opportunities. (Required) Experience in an urban public school. (Preferred) Pass all background check requirements under the School Safety Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018. (Required) Compensation And Benefits Exempt position; salary starts at $71,475 and increases with experience. See salary scale. Renewal add-ons up to $5,000 per year upon returning to KIPP DC.
