Overview

Fayetteville Public Education Foundation (FPEF) provides pioneering and innovative teacher-driven grants to Fayetteville's public schools. The Executive Director will serve as the strategic and executive leader of the Foundation, advancing its mission to support public education in Fayetteville through grantmaking, scholarship programs, and public education investment. The Executive Director will identify and report emerging trends in public education to guide board strategy and funding decisions, and lead data-informed evaluation of program effectiveness and continuous improvement. The Executive Director will steward the Foundation\'s resources, ensuring sound fiscal oversight, long-term stability, and strategic alignment with the Foundation\'s mission. This leadership role guides the organization\'s vision, daily operations, fundraising, and financial sustainability, and drives endowment growth to sustain support for Fayetteville Public Schools and fuel ideas that promote innovation and educational advancement. Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance: Support the Board in governance, onboarding, development, and periodic assessments; implement and adapt the board-driven strategic plan; keep the Board well-informed with timely reporting on performance, financials, and trends; identify and report on public education trends to guide strategy and program direction; maintain relationships with Fayetteville Public Schools and key community stakeholders. Grantmaking & Scholarships: Implement grantmaking and scholarship programs with a focus on compliance, impact evaluation, and alignment with community and district priorities; develop and implement processes for rigorous review, monitoring, and reporting of grants and scholarships; lead continuous improvement to meet evolving needs of students, educators, and schools; guide development of guidelines, proposals, and applicant support systems; report trends to investment strategy and funding decisions. Endowment Growth & Major Gifts: Develop and execute endowment growth strategies; monitor endowment performance with finance and investment committees; cultivate and steward relationships with donors to secure transformative gifts; lead fundraising strategy, ensure transparent reporting and meaningful donor recognition; oversee donor pipeline, multi-year pledges, and donor retention; represent the organization with philanthropic partners and at events; oversee communications and integration with fundraising plans. Operations, Finance & Administration: Provide executive oversight of administrative, operational, and financial functions; liaise with investment professionals for endowment management; ensure compliance with regulations and strong internal controls; oversee annual budgeting, monthly financial tracking, and prepare monthly financial reports for the Board; oversee annual audit and related schedules. Personnel: Oversee staff recruitment, hiring, supervision, and performance evaluations; maintain up-to-date job descriptions and records; define roles and goals with regular performance feedback; recruit, supervise, and support interns and volunteers; champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across programs, partnerships, and internal culture. Public Presence & Communications (as applicable): Serve as the public face of the Foundation at public events and school functions; oversee communications including digital presence, newsletters, annual reports, and promotional materials to elevate visibility and brand. Qualifications

10+ years of direct nonprofit and advancement or related work experience. Successful track record in researching and preparing grant proposals for agency sustainability and capital projects. Proven experience in nonprofit leadership, including strategic planning and organizational development. Deep understanding of fundraising, philanthropy, and donor stewardship. Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial oversight. Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse stakeholders. Track record of building effective partnerships across public, private, and philanthropic sectors. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-led solutions. Experience in board development and governance. Skilled in program evaluation, impact measurement, and data-informed decision-making. Knowledge of policy, advocacy, and systems-level change in relevant sectors. Passion for the mission and a demonstrated commitment to social impact.
