The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, guiding the organization’s vision and future direction. They will design and implement strategies that strengthen financial sustainability, support staff, and position The Cabin for continued growth and community impact. This leader will bring a deep commitment to advancing The Cabin’s mission and values. The Executive Director is a non-clinical role; licensure is not required. Clinical quality, supervision, and standards of care are owned by a licensed Clinical Director. Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management (50%-60%)

Mission & Board Partnership: Partners with the Board of Directors to uphold The Cabin’s mission and vision, and to co-lead organizational priorities, planning, and operations. Strategy & Planning: Defines organizational priorities and leads strategic planning processes, implementation, and progress monitoring. Staff & Culture: Oversees hiring, onboarding, retention, and terminations; fosters a culture aligned to The Cabin’s mission and values; and leads staff development, engagement, and internal communication (including monthly meetings and the annual retreat). Clinical Partnership & Compliance: Partners with the Clinical Director to ensure high-quality services and programs; maintains organizational compliance by resourcing clinical credentialing, privacy/security standards (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 as applicable), and quality improvement processes. Operations Oversight: Manages regional staff and functional areas, including partner relations and fundraising, programs and services, office management, bookkeeping, and marketing.

Finance & Sustainability (20%–30%)

Financial Leadership: Ensures financial stability by developing, managing, and monitoring short- and long-term budgets, including monthly assessments of revenue and Samaritan Fund utilization. Operations & Compliance: Oversees daily financial operations such as payroll, accounts payable/receivable, bookkeeping, office space needs, and compliance requirements. Fundraising & Development: Collaborates with the Director of Partner Relations to identify, cultivate, and steward financial sponsors; actively engages in donor development, grant writing, and fundraising initiatives. Planning & Forecasting: Leads scenario planning, cash-flow forecasting, and risk management; prepares board-ready financial dashboards and reports.

External Relations & Community Impact (20%)

Partnerships & Donor Relations: Collaborates with the Director of Partner Relations to identify, cultivate, and steward clients, donors, and community partners (e.g., chambers of commerce, schools, nonprofits, and businesses). Visibility & Thought Leadership: Serves as a regional thought leader by staying connected to best practices and emerging trends in mental health; represents The Cabin in advocacy and community forums. Marketing & Outreach: Ensures that outreach strategies and materials reflect The Cabin’s mission, values, and priorities, strengthening visibility and engagement. Fundraising & Accountability: Provides strategic oversight of fundraising initiatives (donor cultivation, grants, events, sponsorships) and sets annual external targets, reporting progress quarterly to the board.

Qualifications & Key Skills

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, marketing, healthcare administration, or related field. Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization. Licensure not required; familiarity with behavioral health/human services and HIPAA fundamentals, with the ability to partner effectively with licensed clinical leadership. Proven experience in fundraising (individual giving, grants, corporate partnerships) and board governance. Strong marketing and communication skills, with the ability to expand visibility and Experience in strategic planning, financial oversight, and budget management. Demonstrated success in managing and motivating diverse teams across multiple locations. Proven ability to build relationships with boards, staff, donors, and community stakeholders. Preferred: familiarity with Indiana’s payer landscape and revenue-cycle basics; established local philanthropic network. Alignment with The Cabin’s values of compassionate, high-quality, and accessible mental health services. This is an exempt position. The Cabin offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience and skills. The role is based in the Zionsville, IN office, with regular travel to our Westfield and Lebanon sites to support staff and ensure organizational presence across central Indiana.
