The SUNY Office of General Counsel (OGC) seeks a Managing Counsel - Litigation and Labor to lead the OGC’s Litigation and Labor Practice Group and develop/implement a strategic vision for the practice. Serve as the lead attorney for the OGC in providing comprehensive legal services and guidance on federal or state litigation involving SUNY campuses. Strategically manage litigation and disputes across the System, including labor arbitrations and other administrative proceedings. Draft responses and position statements in administrative proceedings; manage employment/labor issues in collaboration with SUNY’s Employee Relations Group. Liaise with the NYS Attorney General’s Office, outside counsel, and relevant state offices; negotiate and evaluate settlement requests. Oversee discovery; prepare witnesses for depositions, arbitrations, and trials. Coordinate with NYS Inspector General’s Office and NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government on misconduct investigations; work with SUNY campuses as needed. Perform other duties as needed to support the System’s litigation and labor practice. Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school (or foreign equivalent). Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing (or eligibility for admission within six months). Strong academic background. Experience advising clients on complex litigation and/or labor and employment issues. 8+ years of legal practice or relevant experience prior to beginning the position. Preferred Qualifications

20+ years of experience in litigation and/or labor and employment issues. Proven ability to build, lead, and manage a team and develop/implement new systems. Legal experience in higher education and/or government law. Superior written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; ability to present complex legal concepts to non-legal professionals. Experience in preparing and providing legal training on various legal and compliance issues. Additional Comments - Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this Campus Counsel position is $118,000 - $171,000.
