Overview
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Massachusetts is embarking on a strategic hiring program enabled by additional investments from the UMass Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS). The BME Department is seeking candidates for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor level. Hires at the associate professor level may be considered based on qualifications. The positions are defined broadly to encompass the full scope of biomedical engineering. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: devices, hardware, and instrumentation for biomedical applications; artificial intelligence (AI) applications in BME and biomedical imaging; biomedical engineering applications in women’s health. Benefiting from the university’s strong history of collaboration across departments and with UMass Chan Medical School, the department is on a rapid ascent. The projected start date for these roles is September 1, 2026. Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field or anticipated by August 31, 2026. Demonstrated potential for scholarly excellence and developing an externally funded research program. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an internationally recognized scholarly presence. Candidates will be expected to teach existing undergraduate and graduate courses in the biomedical engineering curriculum and to develop courses in their area of expertise. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Responsibilities
Develop and sustain an externally funded research program. Teach and contribute to both undergraduate and graduate courses within the BME curriculum. Develop new courses in the area of expertise and engage in scholarly activities. Application process
