Mechanical Engineer, Mechatronics (Autonomous Vehicle Team)
Foundation, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
Overview
Mechanical Mechatronics Engineer (ATV Team) at Foundation. Foundation is developing the future of general purpose robotics and electric mobility with the goal to save lives and augment human labor. Our mission is to create autonomous all-terrain vehicles that can operate in complex environments, reducing human risk across conflict zones, construction, mining, and space. We are looking for extraordinary engineers and scientists to join our team. Your previous experience in robotics isn’t a prerequisite — it’s your talent and determination that truly count. We expect many team members will bring diverse perspectives from various industries and fields. We are looking for individuals with a proven record of exceptional ability and a history of creating things that work. Our Culture:
We like to be frank and honest about who we are, so that people can decide for themselves if this is a culture they resonate with. Responsibilities
Design, test, and integrate electric motors, gearboxes, and drivetrain components Develop and validate custom electromechanical actuators Support prototype builds with hands-on fabrication, test setups, and troubleshooting Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and documentation for mechanical subsystems Collaborate with electrical, software, and controls engineers to integrate hardware into complete vehicle systems Analyze test data to guide design improvements and ensure system reliability in rugged off-road conditions Contribute to rapid prototyping and iteration cycles, from R&D concepts to field deployment What Kind of Person We Are Looking For
Experience designing or testing rotating machinery (motors, transmissions, gearboxes) and/or robotic actuation mechanical design Familiarity with sensors, wiring, and electromechanical integration 4–6 years of experience in mechanical design, testing, or integration (robotics, EVs, automotive, aerospace, or mechatronics) Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, Onshape, or similar) for electromechanical systems Comfortable with prototyping, test setups, and hands-on troubleshooting in the lab and field Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field Qualifications
Proven ability to design or test rotating machinery and robotic actuation systems Strong understanding of sensors, wiring, and electromechanical integration 4–6 years of relevant mechanical design, testing, or integration experience Proficiency with 3D CAD tools Compensation and Location
The annual compensation is expected to be between $150,000 - $1,000,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Location options include Mountain View, CA; Palo Alto, CA; Fremont, CA; Redwood City, CA; Milpitas, CA; San Francisco, CA; Sunnyvale, CA. Job Function and Industries
Job function: Manufacturing and Information Technology Industries: Robotics Engineering, Manufacturing, and Motor Vehicle Manufacturing We provide market standard benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k, etc.). Join us for the culture and the mission, not for the benefits.
