The role focuses on creating computational models to analyze the abuse tolerance of high-voltage components and systems within Tesla's diverse product line. The Sr. CAE Engineer will leverage these models to assess potential hazards and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive the development of safer and more robust battery packs.
Responsibilities
Develop heat transfer, fluid flow, and combustion models to simulate system performance under abuse scenarios
Design novel tests to study battery properties in abusive conditions and correlate findings with computational models
Build and utilize first-principle analytical models to accelerate design decisions
Establish standards to guide design directions for new programs
Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate safety considerations into battery pack development
Requirements
Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience, with 2 years of relevant work experience
Strong foundation in thermal and mechanical engineering principles
Demonstrated experience in thermal modeling for at least one relevant product line
Familiarity with CFD tools such as Star-CCM+ or Ansys Fluent
Proficiency in MATLAB and CAD software
Experience with measurement equipment like DAQs and sensors
Understanding of basic electrochemistry principles
Compensation and Benefits
Expected Compensation: $92,720 - $360,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
