Save Job

We are partnered with a fast-scaling, product-led AI company building practical, enterprise-grade AI products used by global customers. The company moves fast, ships often, and prioritizes responsible, compliant deployment of advanced models and tooling. They are seeking an experienced AI Counsel to own legal and risk work across product, data, privacy, and commercial teams. What you’ll do

Ensure our use of AI complies with applicable laws and regulations, contractual commitments, and security requirements. Advise product, engineering and go-to-market teams on legal and regulatory implications of AI features and releases. Draft, negotiate and manage AI-related contract terms (SaaS, data licenses, model licensing, vendor agreements, research collaborations). Lead company review processes for generative AI and other advanced AI technologies (risk assessments, red-team findings, mitigations). Develop and maintain internal policies and playbooks for responsible AI usage, model governance, data handling, and transparency. Coordinate with privacy, security and compliance teams on data protection, DPIAs, cross-border transfers, and incident response. Review marketing and customer-facing materials for regulatory and accuracy risk. Provide pragmatic, business-minded solutions balancing product velocity with legal risk mitigation. Support training and enablement for engineers, product and commercial teams on AI legal issues. What we’re looking for

JD from an accredited law school and membership of a U.S. state bar (active or past). 5+ years of legal experience at a technology company or top-tier law firm with significant exposure to software, data, privacy and commercial contracting. Direct experience with AI/ML, generative AI, or data-intensive products — advising product teams and drafting model/data licensing or AI-specific clauses. Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills across SaaS, vendor and research agreements. Practical knowledge of privacy/data protection laws (e.g., U.S. state privacy laws, GDPR) and ability to apply them to AI products. Excellent stakeholder management — able to influence engineers, product leaders and executives. Strategic thinker, pragmatic, able to distill complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance. Nice to have

Prior in-house experience at an AI or machine learning company. Background in computer science, data science, or coursework/experience that demonstrates technical familiarity with ML pipelines. Experience with regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, government) or with export controls. Track record developing AI governance frameworks or model risk processes. Seniority level
