The Role
The bank is seeking a
Senior Commercial Underwriter
to support its expanding commercial portfolio. This role will evaluate, structure, and underwrite complex commercial loan requests, working closely with lenders and leadership to ensure sound credit decisions while supporting client needs. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of commercial lending, and the ability to balance risk with opportunity. Key Responsibilities
Analyze and underwrite complex commercial loan requests, including C&I, CRE, and SBA transactions. Perform detailed financial, cash flow, and collateral analysis to assess risk and creditworthiness. Prepare thorough credit presentations and recommendations for loan committee review. Partner with commercial lenders to structure deals that meet client needs while aligning with bank policy. Monitor credit quality and ongoing performance of assigned relationships. Stay current on industry, regulatory, and market trends that may impact credit decisions. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters or analysts. Support a culture of collaboration between credit and lending teams. What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field. 5+ years of commercial underwriting/credit experience, preferably in community or regional banking. Strong knowledge of commercial credit, financial statement analysis, and loan structuring. Experience with C&I, CRE, and SBA lending strongly preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present credit decisions. High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
