Director of Business Development – Husch Blackwell

Role purpose : Drive the firm’s revenue growth, enhance brand awareness through key initiatives, and lead the Business Development and Proposals Teams across the U.S. as part of the firm’s leadership. Responsibilities : Lead the development, execution and review of strategies and initiatives for related practices and lawyers. Drive revenue generation initiatives including client targeting, market research, responses to RFPs, and client relationship reviews. Collaborate with communications, brand, and awards/recognition teams to develop and execute visibility initiatives and build brand awareness. Lead team efforts related to strategic key clients by providing direction, infrastructure, KPIs and metrics. Build, manage and lead a high-performing marketing and business development team located across the U.S. Establish and maintain relationships with firm-wide industry leaders, practice group leaders, managing directors, and the broader department. Elevate matter collection and streamline knowledge management processes for client-facing materials. Partner with department leadership to drive cross-functional projects, increasing efficiency, collaboration, and visibility. Drive cross-selling opportunities with the Business Development Team and pursue new business and expanded client relationships. Develop and implement firm-wide business development strategies and training to standardize best practices. Share best practices across industry and practice groups to maximize productivity. Coach, mentor and develop team members; set performance standards and monitor progress. Lead change initiatives related to talent and people management; stay current on legal market trends, news, and innovations. Position requirements : 4-year degree in marketing, communications or related field required; Master’s degree preferred; industry certifications preferred. 15+ years of progressive experience in marketing and business development; experience leading company-wide initiatives in a multi-office setting, preferably in a professional services firm. Strong business development capabilities including prioritization, planning, organization, delegation, negotiation, budgeting and ROI analysis. Ability to motivate attorneys to engage in business development and to develop and implement BD plans. Experience delivering high-level client service to stakeholders at all levels. Excellent written and oral communication; ability to produce compelling proposals, collateral, research reports and client-facing presentations. Forward-thinking with a track record of delivering solutions to complex challenges. High level of maturity and confidence for interactions with sophisticated clients. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; strong background in BD/marketing technology, tools and processes. Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to communicate clearly and build consensus. Team-first approach with experience managing a large, geographically diverse team. Dynamic energy, can-do attitude, results-oriented with client service focus. Ability to adapt to ambiguity and shifting priorities; strong leadership to guide and develop the team. Ability to develop and implement strategies aligned with the firm’s objectives. Discretion with confidential information; excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently and in teams; effective delegation and resource management. Strong IQ, EQ and AQ to build relationships with employees, partners and leaders. Initiative, critical-thinking, and collaborative problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
