Medical Scheduler - Neurosurgery (F/T, Days)
Albany Medical Center is seeking a Medical Scheduler for the Neurosurgery department. This full-time, day shift role involves patient registration, scheduling, and supporting a smooth clinical workflow.
Responsibilities
Assist all patients that report to the front check-in desk and greet patients in a prompt, courteous and professional manner.
Interact with a diverse patient population and communicate professionally with providers, patients, clinical care team, and insurance companies.
Utilize the electronic medical record to maintain patient records via registration process and scan functionality; update insurance information, appointments, and collect patient co-pays as assigned at check-in for scheduled appointments.
Be knowledgeable with state and government agencies to provide proper consents for patients who are wards of the state; work with facilities to obtain proper consents from patient proxies.
Schedule follow-up appointments and referrals as needed when patients check out.
Answer incoming phone calls and direct to appropriate team members; maintain a professional image by adhering to the established dress code.
Responsible for the registration and scheduling process for complex patients and updating the system with registration, scheduling and insurance information.
Prepare patient disability and out-of-work / school paperwork; discuss financial obligations and explain regulatory forms; answer patient questions.
Ability to work in multiple systems during patient-facing interactions and telephone receipts to complete accurate registration and support clinical workflow.
Understand the practice and hospital strategic plan; support departmental plans, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
Represent Albany Medical Center and promote the department, Practice, Hospital and Center; exemplify Albany Med CARES guiding principles.
Promote patient and employee safety as a top priority; maintain a safe environment and promptly report issues; understand patient safety goals.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
2-3 years of office experience, or one year of related experience in a medical practice - preferred
Experience using an electronic health record and Microsoft Office a plus
Excellent customer service skills; ability to multi-task in a high patient volume unit
Strong time management, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
