Key Accountabilities As Assistant Vice President, Inland Marine Underwriting, you will shape the direction of the Inland Marine portfolio. Daily activities include managing relationships with agents and brokers across your territory and overseeing underwriting for complex accounts. You will contribute to product development, refine offerings with cross-functional teams, mentor junior colleagues, and participate in special projects to drive improvements. Additional responsibilities include auditing premium calculations for accuracy, ensuring regulatory compliance, monitoring portfolio performance against financial targets, and serving as a technical resource for internal teams and external partners.

Manage an assigned underwriting territory by building relationships with agents, brokers, and stakeholders to support profitable business growth.

Oversee underwriting of complex accounts within authority levels, ensuring adherence to guidelines and best practices.

Contribute to product development initiatives, including form creation and rate calibration.

Coach, train, and mentor junior staff and participate in special projects.

Audit premium calculations and resolve discrepancies in accordance with company standards.

Use internal standards to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges for new and existing business.

Review relevant laws and regulations related to cancellation, non-renewal, and compliance within assigned locations.

Monitor portfolio performance and analyze results to identify trends and ensure alignment with business goals.

Provide technical guidance on complex transactions and support project teams.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience To excel in this role, you should have substantial experience in managing complex Inland Marine portfolios and a track record in risk assessment, policy negotiation, product development, compliance oversight, and stakeholder management. Strong communication and mentoring abilities, attention to detail, and analytical thinking are essential. A demonstrated ability to work across functions and with external partners is valued.

At least five years of experience with Inland Marine, familiarity with AAIS Forms and Inland Marine coverages.

Knowledge of laws related to underwriting Inland Marine policies, including cancellation and non-renewal protocols.

Experience with risk selection, evaluation, rating, quoting, and selling both admitted and non-admitted Marine lines.

Strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines.

Excellent communication skills for interactions with internal teams and external partners.

Customer-service orientation and professional demeanor for engagement across wholesale and retail channels.

Experience managing a book of significant size (e.g., at least $5M).

Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and adaptability to new systems.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent; AMIM or CPCU designations preferred but not mandatory.

Willingness to travel as required by business needs.
